I had a pleasant stay here at the Red Roof Inn...but I was disappointed in how deceiving the outside is. From the outside everything looks extremely polished. The new look for Red Roof Inn got me excited. But staying in July proved to be a bit unpleasant in that there was a very high temperature in the hallways and elevator. It gets to be 100 EASY in the Texas summers and it had to have been at least 80. My friend and I both were sweating easily just from going from our room to the lobby.
Also dissatified that you have to pay $5 a night in parking. If you're paying for your room, then why more $$? They have a parking garage that you get a passcode from checking in...enough with the charges, already. You're NOT downtown with limited parking...
Unique Quality: The room came with a big desk which I appreciated. There were plenty of television stations and the beds were comfy enough. The location isn't exactly "downtown" because you have to cross the freeway and go on a bus to get around but it's easy enough on the bus...just a little shady with the characters on there when it's late at night.
The pool is pretty big, and very busy during the summer!
Directions: Across the street from the Convention Center on the other side of the freeway
A cheap hotel within 3 blocks of the Riverwalk, Alamo, Amtrak, and Greyhound stations, and a little bit further from the Alamodome, I would think would be a tough find. The Red Roof Inn meets those requirements. So, whatever you think about this, or any chain hotel, I think you will be hard pressed to find a cheaper place this close the action.
