parks for picnicking?
by sheisaeval
What are the best parks for picnicking? If it's somewhat quiet/relaxing it's a big plus, as well as if there's a lake/river/pond in it.
Also, has anyone been to the Botancial Gardens or the McNay Museum? Are they worth going to?

Golden Gate park in downtown SF is great for picnicking. You would think it would not be, but it actually is. it is huge, and there is the Palace of Fine Arts in the area which has ponds and trees. There are benches and joggers around the park. It is very "lively" on a Saturday afternoon and basically safe. You will see rollerbladers, etc. Also the SF Zoo is very close by.
Travel Tips for San Antonio
FIESTA SAN ANTONIO
by jlpretty
EVERY YEAR IN APRIL THE CITY OF SAN ANTONIO PUTS ON A PARTY THAT LASTS ABOUT 2 WEEKS. IT IS BEFORE THE HEAT OF THE SUMMER AND THE WEATHER IS STILL PLEASANT. YOU CAN GO FIND SOMETHING SPECIAL TO DO EVERY DAY AND EVERY NIGHT. MOST THINGS ARE SURROUNDED AROUND FOOD AND ALCOHOL.
NIOSA OR Night In Old San Antonio is a good example. Go early and enjoy the food as it gets really crowded as the evening progresses.
Another story of Cinderella type came from Japan
by Maria250
"Another early story of the Cinderella type came from Japan, involving Chûjô-hime, who runs away from her evil stepmother with the help of Buddhist nuns, and she joins their convent.
The most popular version of Cinderella was written by the French author Charles Perrault in 1697, based on an earlier literary fairy tale by Giambattista Basile (La Gatta cenerentola in 1634). Another well-known version in which the girl is called Aschenputtel was recorded by the German Brothers Grimm in the 19th century.."
Good atmosphere, Poor Service
by sasweetie about Zuni Grill
I recently ate at the Zuni Grill on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. The Atmosphere was great, my entree of Prime Rib was good. The service was slow and terrible. My mixed drink was so watered down that I tasted no alcohol and it was $9.00. I switched to red wine. I asked two different waiters for my first drink and later asked two different waiters for my red wine. My bill alone was over $40.00 and that was way too much.
A friend had some calamari and I tasted it - rubbery and tasteless.
I do not recommend this restaurant. My Prime Rib was good (it was one of the specials). T
he side veggie - was a mixture of green beans and peppers that was so chewy and rubbery that I could not eat it.
italian
by doug48 about michelino's
michelino's is a good italian restaurant on the river walk. it is located just off commerce street in the heart of the river walk entertainment area. good italian fare moderately priced. they also serve a very good 20oz margarita.
Sea World
by PookieRabbit
You have no doubt heard of this aquatic theme park chain from visiting or hearing of its more well known sister park in Orlando. However perhaps somewhat surprisingly (maybe not in Texas) this is supposedly the biggest of the four Sea World complexes in the States.
Its perhaps beyond the scope of this review to go into all the attractions at the park but there is a good mix of rides, shows and exibits to keep the whole family happy (and if dad isnt driving I will quickly mention that being owned by Anhauser Busch will help in sampling the Budweiser beer at the hospitality centre).
So quickly the rides are as follows - Steel Eel, The Great White (will keep most coaster fans pretty happy) and two water rides, Texas Splashdown and Rio Loco - both pretty good but not at the pinnacle of there particular theme.
Exhibitions include the Dolphin Pool where you can feed them, The Coral Reef (one BIG aquarium - oh yeh and with Sharks) and the Penguin Encounter (not forgetting the Puffins also).
Finally the shows are one the big pulls of Sea World and you won?t be disappointed. The shows include Viva and of course Shamu Visions - make sure you get the show times brochure when entering the park.
I should also mention that Sea World also has its own waterpark included in the park and on the same ticket, it was shut when I was there due to it being out of season - 75 degree too cold for the Texans!).
Sea World certainly isnt downtown. Its around a half an hour drive or so north west of the city literally in the middle of nowhere. If you dont fancy driving pay the $1.60 each way and use the VIA transport from downtown. When I was there I used the rather slow route 64 bus. I have a feeling however it may be worth looking for a 63 route in season which could use a more direct route.
Apart from that your only worry is trying to explain how Shamu the whale is at all the parks in America on the same day!
