There is shopping right on the Riverwalk downtown but the outlet malls are in San Marcos and New Braunfels, about a 30 minute drive N on Interstate highway 35. I have some pics and tips on my SA pages if they might be of any help.

Travel Tips for San Antonio
Go to the Riverwalk...it's so...
by Leslie4God
Go to the Riverwalk...it's so beautiful to see during Christmas time when it's all lit up! My foundest memory of San Antonio is hanging out with my best friend Aimee and her husband Chris!
Oh and competing out there during a choir tour one year back in highschool
Pet the animals
by kyoub
Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is home to over 500 animals from around the world.
As you enter the ranch you will see the giraffees on one side and a petting zoo on the other. Park your car and walk up to the cages where you will see lemurs, macaws, goats, and other animals. You can even go in the cage with the baby goats and pet them.
Bus No 7
by TheWanderingCamel
San Antonio's Sightseer Special Bus No 7 is a great way to get to the attractions that lie to the north of the downtown area, especially those centred around historic Brackenridge Park. Starting at the Riverwalk Streetcar Station on the hour, the bus travels north up Alamo, stopping at the Alamo, San Antonio Museum of Art, Brackenridge Park, San Antonio Zoo and the Witte Museum before reaching its terminus at the entrance to the Botanic Gardens about 20 minutes later. On its southward return it continues on to the arts village of La Villita before looping back to head north again.
At only $1 for a single journey ticket valid for 2 hours travel (transfer tickets available, free for the first one and only 15c for subsequent transfers - you must ask for your transfer ticket when you first get on the bus) or $3.75 for an unlimited travel Day Pass, San Antonio's bus service is excellent value and a great way to get around the city.
You can print a timetable and information sheet for the Sightseer Special by clicking on the website and entering "7" into the Choose a Schedule menu option.
Dine Along the River
by KimberlyAnn about Boudro's
We had an outstanding lunch at Boudro's along the Riverwalk just west of the junction of Commerce and Alamo Streets at 421 E Commerce Street. Esquire Magazine named this one of the country's 50 best restaurants. We had a delightful and exquisitely tender small steak on a polenta cake with grilled vegetables, and a chocolate dessert that was a chocolate lovers fantasy come true. This dessert tasted of high quality chocolate with nuts and a delightful sauce. We would definitely eat here again, maybe for a night meal next time. We ate on the patio and watched the river and its visitors move past. In 2000 the average cost for an evening meal at Boudro's was $12 - $22 and lunch ran from $5 - $9. . Boudro's also offers riverboat dining along the river through Yanaguana Cruises. If you enjoy quacomole your waiter will prepare it tableside. And of course that chocolate dessert!
McNay Art Musuem
by tracelajune
The McNay Art Musuem is a jewel hidden beneath the riverwalk and Alamo of San Antonio. My fellow travelers and I almost missed this beautiful place. The gallery is full of beautiful artwork from well known artists. Marion Koogler used to own the estate and collected all of the artwork contained in the museum throughout her life. The estate has fountains and beautiful gardens, not to mention the beautiful mansion that contains all of the artwork. If you appreciate art at all, you will enjoy this tourist attraction.
