Trip to San Antonio for 2 days

by infouser123

Hi,

We stay in Dallas, TX, my husband an myself are planning to drive to San Antonio for the memorial day weekend. We are planning to stay for 2 days and visit the seaworld. Since, this is our first trip, could you provide any suggestions, like what are the good hotels/studios available near the seaworld at reasonable rates, do we have to reserve them in advance, or can it be reserved after we arrive there, what are the other nearby places to seaworld that are good to visit? Do you know of any indian restaurants nearby? What all attractions are good to see in the seaworld?

Try staying near Fiesta Texas instead. There are tons of restaraunts on I-10 and DeZavala. The shops @ La Cantera ( Fancy new mall ) are right there. I'm sure there are some nice places over by Seaworld, I have only been there twice. It's 45min+ from the NE side of town so I'm not familiar. A trip to the riverwalk should be on the list. Just north of downtown is the zoo, the Whitte museum, the Botanical Gardens, which could be done all in the same ( very long ) day. Or, drive north to New Braunfels to experience Schlitterbahn. On the soth side of town you could do the "Missions driving tour", part of the National Park service.

As for reservations, book early, it's a holiday at the end of school. Anyone with kids will be planning vacations.

Good luck and I hope you find your stay in San Antonio very enjoyable.

In addition to those suggestions by Camermom, don't miss the Museum of Texan Life.

1. Enjoy lunch at any Mexican restaurant along the Riverwalk and
2. See the Alamo.

Travel Tips for San Antonio

Torch of Friendship

by msbrandysue

Of you're going to spend time around the downtown/Riverwalk area you're probably going to come across this tall, bright red sculpture named the Torch of Friendship.

A bit of information from the following website:
"The "Torch of Friendship" was given to San Antonio by the Mexican Consulate as a sign of friendship and to represent the roots many Texans share with Mexico. The contemporary steel sculpture was made in Mexico and shipped to San Antonio in six pieces. It stands 65 feet tall and weighs 50 tons. It was commissioned to commemorate the relationship between the United States and Mexico and the two countries' increasing commercial ties. Urban monumental sculptor Sebastian was commissioned at the request of the Association of Mexican Entrepreneurs of San Antonio to design the sculpture.

Title: The Torch of Friendship
Artist: Sebastian
Media (materials) used: 50 tons of red steel
Location (specific park, transit center, library, etc.): Just outside the entrance to Riverwalk
Date of creation or placement: 27 June, 2002

Although the picture is not a good quality, it is a nice sculpture to look at while touring around the Riverwalk area.

US Post Office and Courthouse

by Yaqui

Built in 1935-37 and Designed by Ralph Cameron at the cost of $1,864,000. It graces the very spot that use to be the Alamo’s battlefield and before that the burial ground of Mission San Antonio de Valero. So the question I have is, are there still burials underneath it? Hmmm!

I did not go inside of it, but wished I did. It is suppose to have some really neat murals inside the lobby painted by Howard Cook of Taos, NM and history of Texas. The building was renamed in honor of a former US District Judge Hipolito F. Garcia Federal Building in 2004.

On the corner of Houston, Travis, Alamo, and Ave E. and across the street from the historical Alamo.

Not Ferggie-licous, but a nice change

by raevnzno about Black-eyed Pea

Located near the medical center in a small strip mall. This location advertises great american food and spirits.
We visited on early in the evening, prior to heading to the airport. The dining room was quiet, and the service was excellent. I had the veggie platter, the others in the party had chicken fried steak. Portions were sufficient, taste was bland. I've had better at the Cracker Barrel.
I don't think this will be a keeper in our dining repetroir.....

Good Choice for a Leisurely Breakfast

by TexasDave about The Guenther House

Carl Hilmar Guenther, the founder of Pioneer Flour Mills, built this elegant home in 1860. Pioneer has restored the home to welcome visitors as a museum, restaurant, and retail store.
is a small restaurant but everything is fresh and many items are made of mixes made by neighboring Pioneer Flour Mills.

The Riverwalk

by marciaca

It is a set of man made canals along which are various shops, bars, and resturants. They also have various tour boats around the canals. It's especially nice at nice. Just don't get drunk and fall in the river.
