Read Good and Bad Reviews before Booking

The Sheraton Gunter is a historic hotel with a beautiful lobby and entrance as seen on the pictures; unfortunately, do not be fooled all by the pictures. Everything appears to be clean and plush; however, the rooms are not what they are cracked up to be. The rooms are small, the bathroom extremely dysfunctional. The sink, toilet, and tub might as well been one. They were right on top of each other. The bathroom door could not even be opened completely do to the towel rack directly behind the door. There was hair stuck to the wallpaper which too looked old and mildew. The towels were wet due to the ridiculous humidity in the room. Everything smelled of mildew because of the wetness in the air. The carpet was dirty and stained. The curtains were also stained and would not close completely; therefore, the morning sun glared into the room. I hate to be so negative but everything is true. I spoke to other guest (members of our conference) which all agreed. Because of the Sheraton is a Historic landmark it really needs to be renovated to keep this hotel operational and functional for its guest. On a positive side the staff was fantastic. They were courteous and helpful. However, the great staff could not out way the overall problems with the hotel. I would never recommend this hotel in the condition it is in now.

Unique Quality: Staff was good

Historical Lodging

As with many historical buildings that offer accomodations, they can reflect a period of time and not current trends. This place has small bathrooms however the room itself was large.
The wireless internet access was disappointing and I stayed away from the parking service due to the $24/day cost. There were many options close by that were far more reasonable.

Unique Quality: The pool and gym were minimal regardless of how the pictures appear in the pictures!
On the first day of my trip I tried out the buffet lunch in what's called Barrons and it was a fabulous deal - lots of smoked seafood to choose from!

Cowboy Chic Hotel

Originally built in 1909, this hotel has been thouroughly renovated and restored and is now operated by the Sheraton chain. Rooms are smallish, but nicely decorated. Most of the original fixtures, designs, etc are still evident. Off to one side of the lobby they even have the original hand-operated switchboard on display. Overall a nice part of the San Antonio experience.

Unique Quality: Located in downtown San Antonio, across the street from the Majestic Theater, which makes it very convenient for all the Riverwalk activities.

More about Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio

Charming!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio in the last week of Jan. 2005. It"s a very lovely hotel with friendly and professional staffs. Our room was roomy and charming with the view of downtown. The location is not right on the riverwalk but it's only a short walk (about half a block west on Houston St) to the entrance. We had a wonderful time strolling the riverwalk and enjoyed the restaurants (Fig Tree is a must try!!) We will definitely stay at Sheraton Gunter Hotel again when we return to San Antonio.

Great Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at the Sheraton Gunter in December, 2004 while in San Antonio for a time share presentation. Our reservations were made for us by the time-share company. Upon arrival, the staff was very courteous and friendly, and also helpful. They checked us in and out in a timely fashion. The lobby was gorgeous, especially since it was the Christmas Season and Christmas decorations were up. Our room was fairly large, and had wonderful, comfortable mattresses, pillows, and down comforters. The room was extremely clean. We willingly paid $2 for bottled water, because when in New Orleans this summer, the same bottles of water were $8. $2 is very reasonable for the water. We would definitely stay here again!
