attending a conference at Easter, trying to decide the best way to get to San Antonio from ireland, thinking of flying to houston then making my way either by rail or bus. or thinking of flying direct into san antonio which involves two stop overs for some hours, any suggestions welcome.
thanks in advance
kathy
I don't understand your dilemna. American Airlines, United, and Delta have one-stop flights from Dublin, Ireland to San Antonio. AA and United transfers through Chicago and Delta transfers through Atlanta.
Continental has one stop flight to San Antonio from Dublin. if you are flying into Houston, the flight from Houston to San Antonio is a very short 40 minute flight. if the conference is being held downtown (such as their convention centre) you would be staying very close and may not need transportation during the time you are attending the conference. unless you wish to stay in Houston for some reason ( most tickets might allow you to break the journey), you can fly direct to san antonio and your hotel might have a pick up at the airport or there are shuttles to downtown San Antonio.
Fly into San Antonio - very cool city, and good time of year to visit.
thanks for all your answers, I have booked with delta

Brackenridge Park was first established in 1899 and sits alongside the scenic San Antonio River. Not only are there picnic areas, but the San Antonio Zoo, Japanese Tea Gardens and a beloved children's train are contained within its 343 acres. The Witte Museum sits on a portion of it, as well.
The San Antonio Zoo is said to be one of the best zoos in the United States. It comprises 56 acres and is home to endangered whooping cranes.
The Japanese Tea gardens offer koi, quiet walkways and lovely bridges. The gardens were created by prisoners and townspeople donated plants for this purpose. Archeologists have suggested that this site has been occupied by people for over 11,000 years.
The miniature train travels over 3 miles of track throughout the park and is a popular ride for children visiting Brackenridge Park.
George W. Brackenridge of Austin donated land for the park. He had moved to San Antonio in 1866 and along with his mother, purchased property along the river. Mr. Brackenridge developed a system of waterworks which supplied San Antonio.
The Witte museum (1926) is located at one end of the park.
All in all, it seems that the residents of San Antonio have been given a wonderful treasure!
I have become numb to the many Hard Rock Cafe's that have opened and am not the big fan that I used to be, but I did have a good time here! The patio overlooks the River Walk and there is a big old Cadillac that sticks out of the side of the building. Casual
To call this food Vietnamese is an injustice to the cuisine of Vietnam, which I am very familiar with. I ordered Bun Ga Xao which i Have had all over the world, and let me tell you this was the worst. this is not a vietnamese restaurant, this is some american restaurant with flavours of asia owned by some retired military guy. Disgusting! I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT. THE WAITERS AND THE CASHIER DID NOT EVEN RESPOND WHEN I SAID COME ON WHICH IS VIETNAMESE FOR THANK YOU, PERHAPS THEY WERE NOT VIETNAMESE!
You can't go to San Antonio and not see the Alamo - that would be like going to Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower. And I have to admit, in order to prepare for my trip to San Antonio, I rented the movie "The Alamo", which isn't a great movie, but at least I got the basics of what went on during the battle and it made my visit to the Alamo more interesting.
The Alamo started out as a mission, which explains its rather small smize, and it is located smack in the middle of downtown. The shrine and the gardens that surround it are beautiful, and the barracks contain a very informative display that will help you learn more about the battle. It's up to you whether you want to make it a long or short visit, but I would definitely recommend going - plus, admission is free!
