Hi. My boyfriend and I just booked at vacation to SPI for February of 2009...
I was wondering how the weather is that time of year, what there is to do, what are some good restaurants (especially for valentine's day) and just tips in general!

Our average high is around 70 and our lows are 55....But, the majority of the time the weather can be very nice....You can go bay fishing, dophin watch,and as for nice resturants I really cant say....Hope that helps you out....

The average high in January is 67 °F (19 °C) and the average low is 52 °F (11 °C). The average high in July is 95 °F (35 °C), and the average low is 77 °F (25 °C). The warm season is long, as average high temperatures are 90-99 °F °C (32-37) , and average low temperatures typically around 77 °F (25 °C). The region experiences relatively high dew point values, around 75 °F (24 °C) in the summer time, resulting in higher relative humidity values from June through September.

You must go to the Radisson's Windjammer Rest. with its glass walls it has the best view. Very affordable too. Weather is great it is Dec 20 and 80 degrees today. Welcome to paradise!
Bungee jumping and other activities involving heights are available on the island. One is located right across from Louie's Backyard. It opens at 7pm. Or if you are into watching you can just go to Louie's and watch from the deck while your sippin on a beverage of choice.
Several places rent equipment and give classes on this relatively new sport which combines flying a kite, gliding, and surfing all in one activity. Novices and intermediates practice in the bayside of SPI where the water is frequently smooth, experts go over to the Gulf side and work the waves. Some get up enough speed to get themselves airborne, do flips in mid-air, etc.
I ordered a frozen margarita and my husband ordered a beer (mug size). It cost us $18 for two drinks. I would not recommend eating or drinking here despite the romantic atmosphere. The buffet was upstairs and it was $19.99 per person.
Way overpriced for the quality and service n/a
The Shrimp Haus is a self-contained restaurant located within the grounds of Schlitterbahn Waterpark - not yet open for the season when we were there. Outdoor and Indoor dining offers a great view of both the beach and the waterpark. The restaurant advertises "101 ways to eat shrimp!" They also offer a variety of other dishes for landlubbers. Since we had decided to forget dieting for the duration of our vacation, I could not resist ordering the special: All the fried shrimp you can eat for $9.95. I consumed 22 of the tasty morsels, and was offered more. Karen had the Shrimp Scampi, which was better than my fried , but fewer in number. We both enjoyed our meals.
South Padre Island is part of the world's longest barrier reef island located at the southernmost tip of Texas Gulf Coast.
It is separated from the mainland by the Laguna Madre and connected by the Queen Isabella Causeway at the south end.
