Galleon Bay Club: Condo on the Bay
Since we have stayed at other very nice time-share condominiums, this one did not quite come up to our expectations. Still it was perfectly adequate, albeit a bit worn and in need of updating. A little carpet cleaning and fresh paint would have helped a lot. We did have a very good view of the bay from our balcony, and overall had an enjoyable stay.
The Galleon Bay Club consists of 40 two bedroom units in a five story building. Each unit sleeps six, has two bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. It is well located in relation to attractions and activities on the island.
Ammenities at Galleon Bay were somewhat limited. but we spent most of our time out and about anyway. There was a boat dock and fishing pier, an outdoor Jacuzzi, a very small outdoor swimming pool, and a couple of picnic tables and outdoor grills.
Rental units are available for as little as $139 per night, minimum 3 nights, and the seventh night is free.

I wish i`d booked a hotel.: Wooden housing.
Most of the housing on the island is wooden, it can withstand far greater winds than the brick alternative and this is a pragmatic choice as the island is often buffeted by hurricane force winds that travel around the gulf of Mexico. The wooden piles allow the whole building to flex and the effect is like trying to sleep on a gently rocking boat accompanied by creaking and groaning.

Hilton Garden Inn: One of the Newest
Just spent 2 nights. most HGI's are cookie-cutter hotels, not this one, and that's a good thing.
It is one of the latest to be built and is at the the northmost end of the town, across from the Convention Center.
Rooms are much larger that average HGI's and rooms with with direct or partial Gulf views have large balconies. there are also conference rooms.
All the common public areas are well maintained and very clean.
There is a large pool and deck area in the back of the hotel, between it and the beach. They gave it a nice tropical touch in that there are two long rows of banana plants, a few with green to ripe bananas. We very much enjoyed our brief stay and would recommend it as one of the nicer hotels on the Island!
