South Padre's Worst

We were looking forward to a nice family vacation on the beach the week of July 20, 2008. We, unfortunately, were thrust into what appeared to be the Monterey Mexico spring break party. The majority of Saida Towers was occupied by "young" people (appeared to be ages 15 - 19) from Monterey who mostly had major drinking / partying in their plans.

We were required to purchase arm bands for occupants 13-25 at $10 each as a security measure. We thought this was a good protection, especially since we had two college age daughters. Our girls were some of the few that had these arm bands.

Security was "strolling", but under age drinking was abound. Very loud chanting across the pool area started at 9:00 pm and seemed uncontrollable. The partying in the room below us lasted until 6:30 am! Beer cans and cigarettes were dropped from the 10th floor balcony like nothing. We couldn't even enjoy our balcony on the 11th floor because of all the smoking on the 10th floor. I contacted Island Services twice during the two days we were there and heard pleasantries on the phone, but didn't see any change. While we were very disappointed that our stay was shortened because of Hurricane Dolly - but it was almost a relief to leave as we only got 3 hours sleep our last night there. For the price, it was very disappointing.

If the last two weeks of July are considered Monterey holidays or spring break, then other guests should be informed of such so that we can make educated decisions regarding our choices.

Regarding Saida Condo #3114 - the room was just okay. Bring your own kitchen items. That is, for a room that will sleep 6, there are only 3 forks. The cookie / baking sheets are all rusted. The oven was dirty. The king size bed is old and very soft. The sofa needs to be cleaned.

Beware!
