This place is three miles of dirt and 16 miles of narrow pavement from the nearest state highway, which is fine with me. We were the only ones there, but there are 40 or 50 rooms in cabins that surely must be full during hunting (or chili-cooking) season. There's a restaurant open from time to time, but don't count on there being anything to buy to eat within a 35-mile drive, there and back. There is practically no ambient light, and the night sky is overwhelming! Lots of birds too. Deer came close by in the afternoon/evening. No phone, no TV. But there was a visitor in the night. Something bumped and scratched loudly in/at/on the cabin at least twice during the night. Maybe it was an owl landing on the tin roof with its prey scratching madly, or maybe it was a coati jumping and scraping, whatever it was, it was no lightweight. The beds in our room were poor, but as we went for the solitude and dark night skies, we were not disappointed. I would stay there again, no problem.
Unique Quality: Desert at your doorstep. Dark night skies.
