A trip back to a Victorian time
This wonderfully restored home was a fun place to stay. It is not in the heart of town, but was close enough to enjoy. It is in a small historic district.
The home itself is absolutely fabulous. Wow, I found myself saying that everywhere I turned. The character of the home's original owners is manifest in every room, and every detail contributed to making the home very evocative of the history of the time.
Each room is named for one of the people associated with the home with a short history of them located in the room to read about. We felt like we were staying in their home as guests.
It is a beautiful home surrounded by a garden with a hot tub and magnolia trees, screened porches. The public rooms include the parlor with books and a player piano, and breakfast room. Even the china appeared to be part of the original home.
Breakfast was filling and delicious and served with love by the proprietors Chris and Lisa Garrett
Superb Bed and Breakfast
Woldert-Spence Manor is an 1859 Bed and Breakfast lodging offering six guest rooms in the main house and two carriage houses. We had a wonderful stay there!
We reserved the largest of the upper bedrooms, the Elizabeth Spence guestroom(picture #3). It was a pretty room with pale lavender colored walls, a lilac strewn comforter, white lace curtains and delicately papered bathroom with pedestal sink and shower (picture #4). Cable tv, hairdryer, shampoos, lotions and internet access was available. It was a quiet room on the second level.
Morning brought a sumptuous breakfast of homemade biscuits, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, orange juice, tea or coffee in the beautifully set dining room (picture #2). A side station held homemade cookies for snacks throughout the day.
The comfortable living room was furnished with antiques and offered long rows of books in shelves along one wall.
A shady seating area in the back yard provided a quiet repose where you could catch up on the day's schedule. We would highly recommend Wolder-Spence for your stay if in Tyler. The owners, Richard and Patricia Heaton, have thought of just about everything to make your visit a pleasant one.
The only thing missing was an iron and ironing board.
