Travel Tips for Waxahachie
401 Oldham Street
This pretty two-story gold house with the white trim has a double door leading to a center hall. The elongated windows must let in a great deal of light.
The roofline above the porch almost seems as though it has sprouted wings! I think a porch always seems to say "Welcome"--wouldn't you just love biding time on a porch swing here? Notice the low black iron fence that fronts the property.
It was the home of Jack Beall, who served as a Texas State Senator and later as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The town's economy has slowed since the Cotton era, which enabled the rich architectural heritage that we see today to remain much as it was in the hey day of prosperity.
Annual Holiday House Tour
We recently traveled to Waxahachie, for its Annual Holiday House Tour held for three weekends in December. Each of the weekends featured different homes in the town splendidly decorated and lit up for Christmas!
Our group of homes on the last weekend, featured older style architecture, although an earlier weekend offered two modern homes on the tour.
We purchased our tickets at the Ellis County Museum, then progressed onto the tour following the map on the brochure. The town was crawling with visitors that night, but we had no problem seeing the homes in the time allowed. Only one house had a line, but it moved quickly.
Hours were 6:00pm-8:00pm. It was held in conjuction with Bethlehem Revisited, which continued until 9:00 pm.
Entertainment at the Faire
Glass Harmonica - Donal Hinely was amazing. He had many glass of varying levels of water and was rubbing the tops of them which gave out amazing music (if that's what you can call it). He played with incredible ease 'Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring' (not a slow piece) and while the reverberation of these filled glasses lingered in air, the crowd was in awe.
Scarborough Faire Festival
The motorplex was built in 1986 and has been the place of many drag racing achievements and world record performances. The Motorplex is a favourite of drivers because of the all concrete race surface. NHRA national events at Texas Motorplex usually produce national records and the season championship titles are usually won here.
