Goblin Valley State Park Campground: camping amongst goblins
The campground at Goblin State Park is worth going to the park for in itself. We had been camping for over a month straight all through the southwest and this was the best place yet with regard to view, atmosphere, and amenities. While a day visit to Goblin State Park is well worth it, the amazing rock formations take on their best color at dusk and dawn so a planned stay is what you should be aiming at. This campground is one more reason to do just that.
Unique Quality: The spots are fairly well spaced and it is not a big campground with only 25 sites and one central restroom. Each site has a covered picnic table that also has ventilated side panels to block the sun when not above. Precious breeze still goes through but it would provide some protection if wind and sand was blowing around. Each spot also has its own BBQ grill and paved parking area. The tent pads are raised slightly and ample size. Some spots are very secluded and truly set right amongst some goblins. The restrooms are modern and clean and there are four hot water shower stalls that are free to campers. It is very reasonably priced at $16 per night, especially when you take into account this includes your entrance fee of $7 per carload. We got there late afternoon and did get a good spot but it was full by nightfall and this was in late May. It was quite warm in the afternoon but cooled off nicely during the night.
