Kodachrome State Park Campground: Kodachrome Kamping

Utah State Parks as a rule provide great camping. Their amenities are generally better than their National Park counterparts with free showers the rule. The spots tend to be more private and better spread out with some thought put into things like shade and shelter from a potential storm. I guess the old adage applies. Those that have more to prove, prove it. Kodachrome Basin State Park is no exception.

Unique Quality: We had come from Bryce Canon National Park and were disappointed with the campground there. The spot at Kodachrome was much more private and our very nice picnic table was surrounded by trees, giving us far protection when it started to sprinkle. The rest rooms were clean and free showers are always a bonus to budget travelers everywhere. The cost of $16 includes the $6 entrance to the park so if you are planning a visit here anyway, it really pays to camp.

Scenic Safaris: Kozy Kabins

We did not stay at these cabins but they looked really nice and are right in the park. The general store in the park is run by Scenic Safaris which does horse trips in the park as well as rents these cabins. The store was closed when we were there but you can call about cabin availability and prices at 435-679-8787.

Campground in State Park: Kodachrome. Konvenient Kamping

The camping at Kodachrome is really nice and convenient for an organized campground. It's only about 12 miles from here to Bryce Canyon. The campground is nestled in a kind of bowl of hills and is quite dramatically lit during sunset. The campground has picnic tables and fire pits and you can park right next to them. It was about 16 degrees F (using the handy VT Metric converter located in the tools tab at top)you'll see that's -8.8889 C, so the campground was quite empty. If you want to spend the night here for the next mornings trip to Bryce, I suggest getting in before nightfall, seeing the sunset, packing it in early and get out by dawn!

Unique Quality: Nestled in a beautiful bowl that glows at sunset. Also please note the anatomically correct formations surrounding you. (see my page linked below)

Camping: Camping

Kodachrome Basin has what appeared to be a very modern campground. There are 24 sites in all, with RV hookups, restrooms and showers and separate group areas for cooking or simply gathering. It was the Ruby's Inn without a roof.
