What to do in August

by 2giants

We will be attending a family reunion in August in Park City. We will have some free time (assorted days)before and after the planned reunion. What should we see and do? Anything we shouldn't miss? Long day trips are probably out since there will probably be plans for dinner each night.
Thanks in advance for any help

As I recall there is a summer Luge or bobsled run near Park City. I looked several years ago and you had to book it months in advance.

A little advice from someone who was in Park City last summer for a wedding- try taking it easy for the first couple of days. I had trouble with the altitude and it took a day or two to become acclimated. Drink plenty of water and limit your alcohol. Also, don't try to do anything too strenous the first day (like hike). Someone actually said that it is better to stay in Salt Lake the first day to get adjusted before moving on to Park City or Deer Valley.

Park City resort has an Alpine Slide, a zipline, a new Alpine coaster and lift lines will take you and a mountain bike to the top for a ride down.

There is also the Olympic park where athletes train, and ski museum and the bobsled runs which you are able to try for a hefty price.

Nearby is the Factory Outlet for some great shopping

The drive to Mirror Lake is not long, maybe a little over 1/2 hour. This is in the Uintas and is a great mountain getaway. There are numerous hikes in the vicinity, get a trail guide. I like the one to Mt Baldy, or a little easier one along the Highline trail to Scudder lake.

You could also head over to Heber Valley for a trip on the Heber Creeper steamrailroad

Travel Tips for Park City

Sundance Valley Ski Resort...Robert Redford Land.

by ladyanne

Sundance Valley Ski Resort located off Route 189 between Heber and Provo in Utah is the famous area that was bought and developed by Robert Redford. It is confused often with it's sister the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah...not too far away.

It is in a very narrow valley that comes to a dead end. A very small ski resort that has slopes for all types of skiiers from beginners to the advanced. The parking area is small which encourages just enough skiiers to be on the mountain at once. A favorite place for local college students because it is much more reasonable for a lift ticket and less croweded than the Park City slopes in the area. Beautiful and remote, I loved this area. Heber which is neaby is a nice city and also reasonable to stay at yet provides the best of everything for the skiier and summer visitor.
