On the way to Zion NP, we decided to spend the night in St. George, Utah.
We had some recent experience with the Best Western chain of hotels and decided to go for this one even though there were some slightly cheaper options along the road.

We had seen an ad in a brochure (one of those you pick up at the gas stations) for this hotel at 79USD, including deluxe breakfast.

The room was very nice with a king-sized bed and it was at street level, so we could park right in front of the door, which is convenient after a long and tiring trip.
There was free wireless internet access in the rooms and since I had brought my laptop (you need your own wireless card), I could take advantage of it! You just had to call a toll-free number in order to get the access instructions. The connection was quite fast and this was an inexpected extra that we were glad to take advantage of.

We also had the chance to use the (indoor) swimming pool and the jacuzzi which were quite nice and a great way to relax on a very nice evening.

Breakfast, however, was nothing to remember. Hotels in the US must all have the same supplier as the brakfast seems to be the same everywhere: Coffe, juice, bread, eggs and cereals. This one had waffles... that you had to prepare yourself, so they were nice and fresh, I guess this explains the "Deluxe" part... Everything else was just plain and boring.

When I went to pay, the (rather unfriendly) girl at the reception, said the rate was 90USD. I told her that I had called and that her colleague had confirmed it was 70USD, to which she replied: "OK then it is 70!. Well, at least she did not give me a hard time.

    Free wireless internet.
    Swimming pool.

    Relaxing in the shade

The rooms had just been redone when we were there in summer 2005. The rooms were very modern with the most amazing comfortable beds. Watch out for the bathtubs however, they are extremely high and a bit of a challenge to get in and out of! The spa facilities were undergoing change as well so haven't seen the new ones. However the services (massage, facial) were excellent. The outdoor pool is very sparse and could use some updating as well as having some amenities around it.

Loved all the hamocks that were around the grounds. Great for relaxing in the shade. Really enjoyed the hikes that were led in nearby Snow Canyon. I also recommend the Astronomy lesson.

This spa is rated #3 in the US by spafinders. The spa is nestled in between houses and condos but the grounds are filled with rose bushes, 6 swimming pools, golf, and tennis. The rooms are luxurious. The room had a working gas fire place, a large tub with jets and was very spacious. The spa treatments were wonderful. I liked that the dining room tables were for 6 as it gave me an opportunity to talk and meet the other guests - who I really enjoyed talking with. The spa only has about 40 rooms so it's fairly small and they only have one schedule of activities for the day (yoga, pilates, aquacise). The spa is pricey so you might want to consider the Red Mountain Spa - also in St. George and priced a little better.

The hiking offerings were great. Each day you had an option of one of three hikes - trail, fitness or strenuous. Zion national park is also about 45 minutes away and they offer a day trip there.

Best Western Abbey Inn: I stayed at the Abbey Inn,...    Check Rates

  • I stayed at the Abbey Inn, which was very nice semi-budget accomodation. There are motels of all price ranges and qualities in town, though.
I get State government rates, but I think off-season is around $80-$90, peak is $110.

The Inn has most of the nice amenities you'd expect at its price level: pool, in-room coffee, fridge, meeting rooms, etc.

  • I stayed a couple of nights here in June 2008 while participating at a music fest in Springdale. I booked it because I read some ok stuff and it seemed to have character. The view from the rooms is wonderful and being across from the airport didn't bother me. In fact overall the place is really quiet. But the wear and tear of this place is showing in all ways. I don't enjoy being negative but you need to check in at the steakhouse next door and when I did the waitress/desk person stayed on the phone for quite a while with a personal call before getting to me.

My shower wouldn't get warm nor hot. I tried to adjust the handle all sorts of ways and it came off. I didn't have any maid service while I was there. There were two serious cigarrete holes in my bedspread in my "non smoking" room. Doors don't fit the dressers etc. The price was right but I think the charm has long passed this place by.

view of st george and mountains.

very friendly staff, we only spent one night here but the staff were more than helpful giving directions and advice on where to eat...it was new years eve and the woman on desk informed us of where the organised street party with live bands etc would be.
standards throughout were clean and functional and the room had a good view over st george.
my only dislike was its location at the end of a busy intersection and a little way from downtown area.
if i needed to i would stay here again.
