we just couldn't afford the Peery

Ok, it was tough having to admit I would really like to stay in the most expensive swank hotel in town. It's not in my nature to say such things but there it was, The Peery Hotel. It had lots of old world charm, no doubt full of antiques. The lobby was impressive but not ostentatious. Okay, it was a bit over the top but hell, I liked it. I knew it was way out of my price range. I knew I was never going to stay there but I found myself, perhaps for the first time, wanting to. Why I asked myself but all I had to do was look across the street and there was the answer: Squatters Pub Brewery was directly across the street!

Unique Quality: Instead, we were staying at the downtown location of Motel 6. Actually, it was a pretty nice Motel 6 and we had seen a few on our six-month trip around the western US. It was also very conveniently located, less than a mile from the aforementioned brewpub, and only a little further to Temple Square. We had not moved the car since we pulled into town and that was very nice. We could walk everywhere. About the only problem was that everywhere we walked aside from in Temple Square itself, the streets were strewn with homeless people which seemed so odd in what otherwise seemed a very prosperous town.

The room was modern, simple and clean. Great value for the location.

We paid $50 for our one night in Salt Lake City.

Motel 6

Some things are the same everywhere. A McDonald´s restaurant, a Wal Mart shopping centre or a 7 Eleven. Same looks, same standards everywhere. That´s the same with Motel 6. Good, but simple quality. I like Motel 6 and use to stay there quite often during my trips across the USA. And there is one really close to downtown Salt Lake City. With prices starting around $35 for one person + additional persons.
