Parking for an hour in SL city on a Sunday, close to temple

by kph100

Hi
We are travelling from Moab to Yellowstone on Sun 10th June
As I15 goes so close to centre of SL city thought about an hours break.
is is easy to park close to the temple area ? and how much would it cost ?
Is this a worthwhile stop for an hour ?
Thks Ian.

When I went there we stopped outside Temple Square, there are parking meters. We just had to find an open one and park, it was very easy. The area is so nice you may lose track of time and spend more than an hour!! I remember seeing parking lots also but for us the meter worked just fine.

You should be fine. The Temple is in SLC's Downtown area, which is mainly offices, all of which require parking and all of which will be pretty empty on a Sunday.
The Temple itself is beautiful and, if you're interested, you can certainly kill an hour with a Mormon propaganda video. The library just down the street is also wonderful (although it may not be open), and there are several shopping areas (Gateway Center is really nice) that will be open later in the afternoon.
Also maybe drive up by the Capitol which will give you some nice views of the city, or there's some beautiful architecture in the older residential area called "The Avenues" which is just northeast of Downtown. And, of course, there's City Creek Canyon.
Lots of stuff to do in SLC, actually. It's too bad you don't have a full day.

Just wanted to add that, if you do end up at a meter (usually the most convenient parking), DO NOT put money in on a Sunday. It's rare (I don't think it exists at all) for a meter to run on a Sunday in the US, and is even rare on Saturdays. I see people doing this all the time and would hate to see you waste your money.

Travel Tips for Salt Lake City

Take a tour around Temple...

by Mark_Purdue

Take a tour around Temple Square. It really is interesting to see the architecture of the buildings. The tours, although conducted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is totally non-commital. They show your around and explain about the religion without trying to force you into anything. My fondest memory of SLC can only be how clean the city was. I was amazed that the city authorities have laid out so much money on making their city pleasing to the tourists eye.

Skiing?

by GracesTrips

Pack your goggles, neck alligators, gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, tissues, chapstick, sunblock, undergarment warming pants and tops, hand warmers, ski socks. You'll need them and you'll still be cold!

Enjoy the bronze sculptures

by Yaqui

I think this city has the very unique distinction of having some really wonderful statues. I always enjoy and treasure this type of art because when bronze is used it is made to last for all our future generations to enjoy!

The Best Chinese in Utah!

by BeckyL about The Mandarin

Actually, I think it just might be the best Chinese anywhere! (: This restuaurant is one of my families favorites and is often the place we go to for "special occasions." I usually don't like Chinese food but this place is AMAZING! The owner is Greek so it has a Mediteranean twist [the sauces in particular set this place a part]. This is a very popular; the line starts forming around 5 pm. But it is worth the wait. The owner and his daughter (she has dark curly hair) are always there making sure that everthing is just right. The Mandarin's hours are: M-H 5pm - p:30pm, F-S 5pm - 10:30pm. I don't think they take reservations for parties under 8 of something like that. They also have take-out. For your money, it's the best food in town! These are my all-time favorites:
Three Flavor Sizzling Rice Soup, Beef w/Green Beens (Asparagus if in season), Mediterannean Chicken, all with steamed rice of course, and for dessert: Falling-Angel Cake w/ Orange Ice-Cream! Dang!

Oasis Cafe. Located right...

by kinipela6

Oasis Cafe. Located right downtown on 500 East, between 200 & 300 South.
This restaurant is mostly vegetarian/vegan. The menu is delicious, and I'm not vegetarian at all! It is a beatiful cafe, located next to a bookstore. Fountains, patio, very nice!! Tomato & Artichoke Sandwich. Mmm!
