Sky Harbor Suites, Salt Lake City

by Homanded

We're traveling through Salt Lake City for a 2 night stay on return trip from Jackson, WY. August 9-11th.
Have been looking at several hotels including Sky Harbor Suites, 1876 W. North Temple.
Anybody familiar with this hotel/apt. complex?

We would prefer being close to sightseeing, including Temple. Any other suggestions?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Homer (and Ed)

1876 W North Temple is in the middle of nowhere. If you want to be able to walk to anything, then this is not where you want to stay.
What is you budget?

Thank you Colin.
We'll have a car but, I've gone ahead and booked at the La Quinta in the airport area.
Seemed like a winner of a hotel, good breakfast included and the price was certainly right charging me a $56.00/rate per night AAA discount!

You are much better at the LaQuinta...I'm glad you made the switch.

Thank you for that vote of confidence Sego.
We're wondering what there is to do in SLC for 2 days.
Can't seem to come up with much...?
We figured Park City (keep in mind we will have spent 11 days in Jackson/Yellowstone).
Are there any "must do" day trips close to SLC?

Thanks again everyone.

Homer

There are lots of things to keep you busy. You should spend some time in the heart of town around Temple Square, see the buildings and gardens there, check out your family history :-), tour the Capitol, shop or eat at Gateway, visit the Clark planetarium, take a look at the City Library (great architecture). Then you could head up near the University of Utah where there are the Natural History Museum, Fine Art museum, Red Butte Gardens, This is the Place monument and Deseret Village
That could take a day.

Then you might consider a couple of options. First head south and go see Kennecott Open pit mine. It is really huge and fascinating to contemplate. The other options at the south end of the valley are the Cottonwood Canyons. And I think the canyons and mountains are just as wonderful as anything in Wyoming, though on a more intimate scale.
You could head north and go to Antelope Island where you can check out the Great Salt Lake.
Or you could head east and visit Park City. It isn't Jackson, but we do have the Olympic park where you might be able to watch olympians train, or you could take a luge run yourself.
