Room description and photo
by kzapanta
The Cliff's room as very spacious but not very unique or archetectually amazing.
Remember from the previous tip that this hotel is the avalanche shelter for Little Cottonwood Canyon so your walls, hallways will be solid concrete.
But compared to the old lodges up the road, it's hands down superior. Clean, new, room to actually walk around the beds, has room furniture and bathroom inside each room. Room service, and twice a day turndown service.

The spa half of this hotel, ammenities
by kzapanta
A real benefit and reason to stay at this hotel is the convenience and service.
There are a total of 4 restaurants at the property from Sushi, fine American dining, Mexican, and bar. Plus a piano lounge at the top. There is also a daycare center for families at the 2nd floor.
But what I like is soaking my tired and spent body after every full day of skiing at the spa.
Its extra from the lodging rate but you can dip in the pool and jacuzzi downstairs for free. The massages are of course extra.

Best Hotel lodging option in the canyon
by kzapanta
Snowbird resort has this hotel as the flagship for thier lodging choices. I like to use this hotel if I'm skiing both Snowbird and Alta.
Here is why:
-Only real hotel in the canyon that serves Alta and Snowbird.
-Alternative to old lodges like Goldminers and Peruvian that are super small, smelly, but I will talk about the positives of those lodges later
-The condo choice in Snowbird are expensive and don't have the ammenities listed below.
-True ski in and out capabilites with heated lockers and dryers for all you gear.
-Can you say luxury spa. Top floor jacuzzis and heated pool, sauna, steam room, full massage services,
-Seperate jacuzzi and heated pool on the main floor below.
-Room service
-A large room you can walk around in and not feel like a sardine
Unique Quality: This hotel looks dominating with its concrete walls for a reason. Its an avalanche shelter for the whole canyon. Meaning if the worst case senario happens to come to place, everyone will be told to go there and will be safe from the largest avalanches.
Comparitevely, its not too much more expensive than the choices of condos or the lodges up at Alta.
Best part is you can ski out to Snowbird, and with the dual pass, jump to Alta in two lifts.

Great near Moab
by Segolily about Red Cliff Lodge
This Lodge with its own vineyard is outside of Moab on an old ranch on a beautiful curve of the Colorado River. The rooms are walking distance from the lobby. Some are by the river, but the closer ones are not. The rooms are large, western log furniture and well kept. They all have a suite type room with a small kitchenette and sitting area and great bathrooms. Some have connecting rooms for larger groups.
While in Moab if you are spending time in your room then something is wrong, so we didn't stay here long. But it was very comfortable and nice. We ate dinner on the deck overlooking the river just as the sun was setting turning the cliffs across the river a bright red. Truly one of the memorable experiences! It was a great dinner though it could have been the setting and the company.
One of the fun things about this location is the small film museum. The old ranch hosted many film groups over the years and they have built a museum with old pictures, artifacts and information about all the films. It was amazing to see how many stars had come through over the years.

What Should We Do?
by Bobby67
My wife and I are going to San Francisco on 6th Sept for 3 nights then drive down the coast (stopping somewhere overnight ... WHERE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND??) Then going to Santa monica for a few nights then San Diego for a couple nights before flying to Vegas for 3 nights and then Chicago for a couple of nights. AGGGGHHHH - It's gonna be MENTAL!!! I Can't wait and I don't want to miss a thing ....
WHAT SHOULD WE DO WHILE WE ARE OUT THERE??

Driving down is a beautiful trip. Stop for lunch at Nepenthe in Big Sur and a good place to spend the night is in Pismo Beach. The Shore Cliff Lodge is right on the ocean with good views. I'd definitely book a tour at the Hearst Castle nearby. Everyone should see that once.

Highway 1 along the coast is an attractive drive. A major town along the way, with plenty of accommodation and restaurant options, is San Luis Obispo.
Santa Monica has a pedestrian precinct (Third Street) with lots of bars and restaurants. Monsoon and the Border Grill (actually on Fourth Street) can be recommended. Santa Monica Pier is rather tacky.

You are covering a lot of territory in a short time. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed. Quite a bit of difference in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Chicago. Three very distinct cities with very different live styles.
