Bumbleberry Inn
Somewhere in the $50-60 price range Walking distance to shops and restaurants on main street. Hotel has it's own restaurant--nice hearty breakfast(try the french toast special) Less then a mile to Zion's west entrance.

Hi there,
I'll be in Springdale early October, and would like to bring my wife to an old west type of restaurant. (We're from Europe)
I read about one in Cedar City, but I think it's a bit far...
There are two restraunts that I have been to that I really like and fit the old west theme. The first is The Desert Star Playhouse in Salt Lake City (don't wear a tie or they will cut it off) They have really fun and energetic plays to watch while you eat or you can skip the show and enjoy a great steak at the steakhouse. Their web adress is: http://www.desertstarplayhouse.com/
The second place is the Wagonmaster also in Salt Lake City. You eat inside covered wagons and are served by waiters and waitresses in old west costumes. They will occasionally have a shoot out or skit of some sort. Here is the adress and information: Wagonmaster Steak Co. (Steaks/Barbeque/Seafood) - phone: (801) 269-1100
5845 S. Vine Street, Murray, Utah
Dodge City, coverd wagons, cowboys & indians.
Thanks Daniel,
however, I fear that the drive from Springdale to SLC just to go to dinner will kill us!
;-)
Thanks Palo Verde.
I will be the day before in Death Valley, and the day before that in Bishop, CA.
The places after Zion are : Bryce Canyon (1 night), Page/Lake Powel (1N), Grand Canyon SR (2 N), Las Vegas (1N)
I have done some reasearch, and I think I'll have to settle with a 'old west decorated' Steak House!
We'll be too late in the year for Ruby's Inn wagon dinner, unfortunately (Mid-October)! As well as for the rodeo! :-(
I know Tusayan, we'll be staying at the Best Western there :-)
Thanks for the tips in Page.

My Mom, many years ago, was told that Ruby's was a 'dress-up occasion', so of course, She dressed to the 9's. Wrongo! It's still one of the funniest stories I remember. (Gee, wonder where the genetics came from?) (LOL!)

Drive the Zion-Mt Carmel Highway. Photo: Taken from one of the many pull-outs on this scenic road. Sept. '99. Outstanding works of man and nature compete for attention along this route. The road, completed in 1930, was considered an 'almost impossible project,' an engineering marvel of its time. Built across rough up-and-down terrain, it connects lower Zion Canyon with the high plateaus to the east. Two narrow tunnels, including one 1.1 miles long, were drilled and blasted through the cliffs to finish the construction job. As you travel from one side of the long tunnel to the other, the landscape changes dramatically. On one side lies Zion Canyon with its massive cliff walls. On the other side of the tunnel is slickrock country. Here rocks colored in white and pastels of orange and red have been eroded into hundreds of fantastic shapes, etched through time with odd patterns of cracks and grooves.
Hike the Canyon Overlook Trail. Photo: At the turn around point of this easy 1hr round-trip is a spectacular view of lower Zion Canyon and Pine Creek Canyon. This trail is located just east of the long tunnel. There's a parking area on the south side of the road and the trail begins on the north side.
Hike Angel's Landing. Photo: On the last stretch to the summit. Sept. '96. The last .5 mile follows a steep, narrow ridge. Chains have been added for your safety. This is no place for those with a fear of heights.
If you're reading this you're probably headed to Zion N.P. and will most likely stay in Springdale.
This is a small town just outside Zion. The town has numerous hotels, eateries and boutiques/shops. We live very close and are here at least once a week. I'm really of no use about the shops.
If you have the time, please see my posts under Zion. There are numerous trips both in and out of the park which may be of interest
