Sheep Creek Geologic Loop
I've heard about this drive for years. I can't believe it took me so long to take it. This really is a short detour off the main highway that goes through an incredibly stunning geologic warp in stone. I know, I know that sounds dry and boring. But seeing this in real life with the morning sun shining on the Uinta Fault was eye-opening. You want to understand what forces create mountains, this is one of the best places I've seen to illustrate the folding and molding of rock, besides which it is really beautiful rock. Do you like the Navaho Sandstone of the Zions area? You'll find it here as well, hundreds of miles separating it, but looking equally as wonderful.
