This page is rather general, not really focusing on Brattleboro, but from this small city located just off Rte 91, you can find everything in the way of entertainment, whether it be skiing, or hiking, canoeing or camping, eating-out luxuriously or grabbing a picnic to eat on the riverbank. You can find civilized entertainment like movies, plays, concerts (very often classical) and even poetry-reading and story-telling events. If you love to be outdoors, if you love some wildness in your surroundings, then head further west toward the Green Mountain range where there are hundreds of trails of all degrees of difficulty and where mountain-biking is popular. You will also find white-water rafting and kayaking and many other water activities. And to top it all off---breathtaking views!!!
Not to be forgotten, too, is another item Vermont is known for: Maple Syrup. In late winter (February) the sap in the maple trees starts to flow, the trees are tapped, the sap is collected and then boiled down into a delicious sticky-sweet syrup....not to be compared to Aunt Jemima or the likes! lol. To stop by a 'sugar house' while they are boiling the sap in big vats over hot wood-fed fires is an unforgettable experience. Even the steam rising from the pan smells warm, sweet. Some sugarhouses will boil a portion of the syrup longer so you can spoon some onto a cup of fresh snow where it hardens into a candy...delicious!!! Match the maple-syrup experience with a weekend skiing, snow-shoeing, or simply relaxing and you've got it made. Almost Heaven.
