smoke filled flop house
this place is a pit! we booked a room for three nights to see our gravely ill daughter in boston. We booked a no smoking room. We were treated rudely throughout the stay by John..the nite desk person (think that was his name). Firstly..the entire place reeks of smoke from smokers. Aweful smell everywhere..the lobby, all floors,..everywhere. And this is not new...this smell is embedded in everything and everywhere. Secondly, the non-smoking room we were given reeked of smoke. We walked in and found the windows wide open..like they were trying to air it out. It was a certainty that the previous occupant had smoked for his entire stay as it smelled everywhere. No one would do a thing about it. The ac unit..either blows full on freezing cold air, or nothing. no matter what we did with the thermostat, we froze and were awakened every time the unit came on. It blowed like a freezing hurricane. No one would do a thing about it. Thirdly: the iron in the room was a danger. my wife filled it up and went to use it and nearly was shocked to death. I had to run at her and knock her from the circuit. The water tank was cracked, the control knob was broken, and upon looking at it, there were bare contacts showing near the control knob. Not only did they NOT apologize, John was so lazy that he could not even go to another room and get us a working iron. Never stay here or at any Candlewood again as this one seemed to be an over-glorified boarding house or residence apartment complex for long staying residence. They don't care about the short term customers. Heck, there were three cars out in the parking lot alone that were stranded there and unable to run...abandoned. This is a flop house..not a hotel..and the staff..well..could care less.
Unique Quality: nothing..all bad..the only good thing about this place is the location...right next to a mall and just off the hi-way
I plan to arrive to the bus station on a greyhound bus from montreal at 2:00 am to catch a flight to DC at 6:00 am.
Is it safe/possible to take a cab from the burlington bus station to the airport at 2:00 am?
is there a shuttle service to airport?

I looked to see if there was a shuttle up in Burlington for you from Greyhound to the airport. Unfortunately, the buses do not begin running until about 6am.
I did find this on the Burlington Airport site regarding taxis and such. This might help finding yourself a taxi/shuttle from Greyhound to the airport.

I doubt there is any bus or shuttle service at 02:00. But, the good news is that it is not that far. Less than 5 miles. And in the area of the Bus stop in Downtown, there usually is taxis waiting. If worse came to worse, you could probably walk it in an hour. I have driven that route at least 100 times over the years and as I recall it is about 3 to 4 miles. It should not be very expensive if you can find a cab.

The Bus Stop is on Main St. But if you have to walk, it is straight up Main st past the University, over the Interstate (I-89) and straight to the Road that goes to the Airport. There are signs and sidewalks the whole way. But I think you will find a cab, or a sign to be able to call one. Maybe there will be other bus riders from Montreal area also going to the airport and you can share the cab or even walk if you feel up to it.

I too will be arriving by Greyhound at 2 a.m. from Montreal and going to the airport. How was your trip? Was it safe at 2 a.m.? Did you find a taxi easily?
Travel Tips for Burlington
Green Mountains
by Allen_Fitts
Burlington, located in Northern Vermont, has some beautiful mountains to see. There is no other place like this in the United States that I have found. The snow covered mountains and the Canadian snow geese that fly around during the dead of the winter. Ever seen a white Christmas?? Visit Burlington and you just may make that dream come true :)
Church Street is a must for...
by craftsman
Church Street is a must for any visitor. Church Street is where the old Burlington and the new mix and co-exist. You will find at one end of Church Street Burlington's historic City Hall and on the other you will see one of the many churches which give this street its name. You will find a one of the largest concentrations of churches in a small space in the world. All of them with their own unique character and style.
Within Church Street, you will find a nice assortment of restaurants, pubs, as well as shopping venues. When you're finished shopping and eating, you can drop by Ben and Jerry's and have a scoop or two of some of the best ice cream in the world. My fondest memory must be of the people of Burlington. They are a nice and polite lot. It is one of the few places in North America where you can cross the street and not have to worry about being hit by a car - they will stop for you.

In this day and age you can sit any where and watch people going about their every day lifes or gaze at senic wonders on the other side of the world. Web Cams are almost every where and sometimes of high resolution. Your can even take control of the remote and pan and zoom all from the comfort of your arm chair.

Better Take a Sweater or a Jacket
by Goner
Take the usual bag on wheels or backpack, you don't need anything special for Burlington. Everyone was dressed very casually. It would be a good idea to take a jacket any time of the year as very cold winds blow off Lake Champlain. A good camera and some 400 film to capture views on an overcast day.
Vermont Expos Baseball
by olyrunner
The Vermont Expos are a Class A short season affiliate of the Vermont Expos. They play their games at Centennial Field on the UVM campus. This is about as affordable as baseball gets - and you can even buy your tickets online. Forget about the $50 seats and your $10 hot dogs that you'll find at the MLB ballparks. The Vermont Expos bring the fun back to the game. The baseball is great, and in between innings you'll be entertained by silly contests (like grocery cart races) and their mascot, Champ. Bring your love for baseball and a little bit of spending money so you can hit the souvenir and ice cream stands.
