Brandon Inn: Nice B and B getaway
This is a lovely Bed and Breakfast the size of an elaborate mansion located in the heart of Brandon, Vermont. This is ideal if all the hotels are booked in a small town like Middlebury. Sold out lodging happens quite often, so this is an excellent plan b. Wonderful staff, very comfortable. The Inn is in the heart of Brandon, walking distance to everything. Very cozy and huge inside, with comfortable couches to snug in everywhere on the premises. They also have a pool. The rooms are a good size and wonderful furniture. You will feel spoiled. Great breakfast as well. One thing I was not crazy about is the doors are locked at 11pm. If you plan to stay out later, than you have to inform the front desk. Maybe not such a big deal, this is a quiet, country town.

Clara Zeno House: your own private lodging
Clara Zeno House offers one suite on top of a beauty salon, which is pretty darn cool if you ask me. Very spacious, with a bedroom, living room and bathroom all to yourself. Valerie, the owner, is a wonderful and energetic person who will answer all questions Middlebury. Great experience, but remember, you are the only tenant.

The Sugar House Motel: Second choice less expensive option
With cheap housing so difficult to come by near Middlebury, beggars can't afford to be choosers. When our preferred Blue Spruce was not available, we ended up at the Sugar House Motel. While the rooms were affordable, clean, generously sized, and came with refrigerators and microwaves, we never really felt welcome here.
The proprietor, seeing a group of younger adults checking in, automatically assumed we were up to no good. We had three and four people in each room (a fact I disclosed when making the reservation), but we were still made to feel guilty when asking for additional towels (each room only had two)! Plus, the coffee mentioned on the website was not available.
It's unlikely we will return to the Sugar House unless nothing else is available for a future visit.
Unlike other area accomodations, the Sugar House does not allow you to cancel reservations without penalty under any cirumstances. It is good to keep in mind that as soon as you give your credit card information and hang up the phone, you will end up paying if you go or not!

The Blue Spruce: Inexpensive but comfortable
This is the hotel where my mother and I stayed when I was a senior in high school and considering applying to Middlebury College. Now it is the hotel my friends and I stay in on our annual reunions.
Given the cost of rooms in the Middlebury area, the Blue Spruce is quite a deal. The rooms aren't fancy, but everything is plenty clean. They also have suites if you have a larger group.
