I needed a place to stay after driving to Montpelier from West Dover. The Capitol Plaza was suggested in a travel guide so I decided to give it a try. Well worth it. The hotel is your standard hotel...comparable to a Holiday Inn or Hilton, but smaller. I called the morning of the day I wanted to go to Montpelier and was able to get a room for that night. On the following day when after a busy day of sight seeing I didn't want to go back to West Dover. Again, we were also able to get a room at the last minute for a single night accomodation. Three meals were eaten in their resturant, J. Morgan's. The food was very good and the prices were reasonable. Wireless internet access is available at no charge, however, anytime you place an outgoing call from the phone in your room you will be charged at least a dollar per call for all calls including local, 800 and 900 numbers, as well as calling card numbers. TO BE CONTINUED
The Capitol Plaza is a quiet hotel. The on site restaurant is a great place to eat. The food tastes great and the prices are reasonable for what you receive. The lobby is a comfortable place to sit and gather your thoughts or reminisce about your day. The staff at the front desk are friendly. I'd recommend the Capitol Plaza to anyone lookinf for a comfortable nights rest. Pink Victorian house by brazwhazz Due to our late decision to go to Vermont during the foliage season, we ended up booking two different bed and breakfasts for our 2-night stay in Montpelier. Betsy's B&B, despite being ever so slightly further from the town centre than the Inn at Montpelier, was much less expensive and the service was just as friendly. In fact, the morning we left, Betsy herself offered to take us by car to the bus terminal since it was on her way out that day. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, with a wonderful selection of home-cooked items such as the apple coffee cake. What was on the table alone was too much for both of us, so we had to pass on the eggs and toast that the staff were willing to make us. To add to the charm, the B&B is set in a beautiful pink Victorian house. The fact that it manages to stand out in the cozy town of Montpelier says a lot. Please note it is possible you will sleep in the neighbouring house (an annex to the B&B), but the vintage interior decoration is up to par with that of the main house.

This is only part of the B&B by brazwhazz The Inn at Montpelier is set in two historics buildings not far from the town's main intersection of Main and State Streets. This is a fine, slightly upscale, place to stay. Our appreciation of it was tempered somewhat by the fact we had to stay at two different B&Bs due to the lateness of our trip in the heart of Vermont's foliage season. For starters, it was much more expensive than the other place (Betsy's Bed and Breakfast, also included in my tips). Also, despite the courtesy of all the employees, the place now accommodates so many guests it has lost the intimate feeling typically associated with a bed and breakfast. Unlike our previous B&B experiences, we did not feel as if we were lodging in someone's home, as the Inn looks feels more like a hotel. The breakfast was self-catering, another first for us in a B&B. All in all, there is nothing actually wrong with the Inn at Montpelier: it's just that Betsy's Bed and Breakfast is both cheaper and cozier.

We had self contained acommodation over the garage called the Carriage House, but we were allowed, indeed encouraged at no extra cost, to make use of the breakfast facilities in the main house. Breakfast was cooked freshly for each person. A really good place to stay, Useful tip if you stay for 7nights Betsy gives you a discount equal to 1 night. Betsy and her husband won an award for their restoration of the house to its original victorian looks.
