My uncle's home about ten minutes from Newport.
To truly experience Vermont in the fall, you have to get out into the country. The best way to do this is to keep taking random lefts and rights until you hit dirt roads. Just follow them and don't be scared. You'll eventually come out somewhere... probably... and if you ever do get lost, just knock on a door and ask for directions. Just don't be surprised if you get the response, "You can't get there from here!"
