Comfort Inn - Van Dorn Station Area, Alexandria
The Comfort Inn in Alexandria is located about 1/2 mile from Van Dorn Metro stop and right on the edge of busy I-495, the Beltway. They have plenty of free parking, nice clean rooms, free wi-fi, free breakfast, a fitness center, a pool, and best of all--a free shuttle to and from nearby Van Dorn Metro Station. The station is only 1/2 mile away, so it's also a decent walk if the weather is good. Though I'm not too sure about their claim of being in Alexandria.
Rooms when I stayed here were about $140 a night on their website, but I booked through Priceline and payed about $80 including all fees.
Complaints: location is pretty bad with no restaurants in close walking distance. Even the Metro station is kind of a hike once you manage to make it across the street in front of the hotel (yup, no cross walk). The nearby highway noise can be heard in the room if you stay on that side of the hotel.
Noble Roman's Restaurant is also located in the hotel.
