Days Inn Washington DC Alexandria South
When I go low budget in a big city, I tend to get worried, even in a fairly reputable chain like Days Inn. After booking this room I was skeptical, but the rooms were clean if plain, the parking lot ample, free, and well-lit, and there is a good Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurant on site.
My room was $75 plus tax, totaling about $82, for a single queen bed, booked on DaysInn.com. the room was on the second floor overlooking the Richmond Hwy, but it was still pretty quiet. The outside of the hotel is outdated and in need of renovations, but the rooms themselves are adequate for the money and location. On the plus side, they have free wi-fi, a computer in the lobby, in room coffee, microwaves, and refrigerators, and maybe 20 channels on TV including HBO.
After checking in, I had a quick dinner at the little restaurant on the first floor called Papa Reno's Chikzza. They claim to have "fine" Italian and Greek food, but I was immediately drawn to the Middle Eastern kabobs (especially after seeing some signs in Arabic and a small tapestry of Mecca on the wall!). My meal was ready in maybe 10 minutes, and they packed it to go so I could eat in my room.
While there is really nothing in the neighborhood, you are kinda close to the metro (1.5 miles).
