An amazing place to stay!

This is the place to stay--the breakfast is fantastic (although I ate too much), the rooms are lovely (with great armoirs) and the owner is very gracious. When I was there he served wine in the late afternoon. in the library. The location is ideal.
perfect for an easy weekend

Being a return visitor to the South Street Inn, I always love being that close to the downtown mall and all that it offers, as well as walking distance to Main St. and many restaurants. And the breakfast is always great...
Great character

This is an excellent place to stay - central location, pleasant rooms, nice lounge, unusual breakfast.
Just avoid Room 1 - the only room with two beds. It is small and only accessible via a dank outside corridor under the main stairs.
Had a great time! Very Romantic~

My Girlfriend and I stayed the weekend for our anniversary.. We found the Inn to be very quaint and romantic. There was fresh home baked cookies and fruit in the afternoons as well as breakfast in the mornings. All the staff was extremely nice and made us feel right at home. The room was clean and very nice. The fire place was an added bonus. the bathroom was adequate and the shower had plenty of warm water.
The Inn is within walking distance to the walking mall. (we didn't get there because of the rain, but could have easily walked) We did take a nice run into the UVA campus and back.
Far below expectations

We are frequent visitors to Charlottesville, living only an hour away, so this is only our second time staying in town. We have been staying in B&B's for twenty-five years, and this has been one of our more disappointing experiences. The bathroom was sub-par. Even though it was April, it was a warm, humid day and the air conditioning did not work. For the size of the Inn, the common area, which also doubled as the breakfast area, was very tiny. It would be more advantageous to give up one of the downstairs rooms, which face out to the public parking lot, to a more hospitable common area. The continental breakfast was mediocre. The service area was less than 15 feet from the common area, and while we were having our coffee, the person cleaning up was listening/watching, loudly, to the radio/television.
Considering the quality of the restaurants, and the multitude of activities in the area, the Inn needs to step up to the plate, and provide a more welcoming experience. A few rockers on the front porch do not make an Inn.
We'll be coming back!

We stayed at 200 South Street Inn for four nights on a recent trip to Charlottesville, and found it very pleasant. Our room was beautifully decorated and comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfast and the wine and cheese in late afternoon. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming, and went out of their way to help us with information about routes and places to visit and dine. The location was superb, just a couple of blocks from the historic mall. We would love to stay there again.
Best Place to Stay in C'Ville

Terrific location right in charming downtown C'ville. Lovely rooms. Great wine and cheese treats in the afternoon and beautiful breakfasts every day. Plenty of parking. Rocking chairs on the porch and little seating areas in the yard. The rooms are clean and spacious. The people who man the desk are friendly and helpful. We were more than satisfied.
Highly recommend

We stayed here for Memorial Weekend 2008. They were very accommodating. Allowed us to lock our bikes up on the patio railing. We felt very safe leaving our bikes out like that. Continental breakfast in the morning and wine & cheese in the evening were great. Staff is very calm and soft-spoken, exactly what you want in an inn. It's larger than a B&B so you have plenty of privacy, but small enough that the staff know exactly who you are when you need something. Curtain in our room fell down, and they offered to move us to another room. But we turned them down because we liked our room so much we didn't mind there was no curtain on one window. Location is perfect. 2 blocks from the downtown mall on a quiet street. Would definitely stay here again.
Romantic, sweet and comfortable

Ideally located just a short walk from downtown, this very quaint setting is also one of the most relaxing one could hope for. The rooms are comfortable, as was sitting on the back porch in the morning eating breakfast or sipping wine in the evening.
Everything about this place just gives guests space to relax and be comfortable.
