0.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

yes and marvelous ceilings...

yes and marvelous ceilings they are at that. The coolest thing about Montecello I thought were the rooms-their interconnection, size, arches, etc.

My only little gripelet is you couldn't take pictures inside. Its ambiance would have been enhanced with scores of photo flashes going off

Leathers-Snyder Inn: Good B&B in Charlottesville

Old place built as a boarding house (or a cat house) rather than just another big home converted to a B&B. Upgraded with all the modern goodies yet kept the feel of the old place. And a good place it is, walk to town or hang in one of several common areas - depending on your mood. Full breakfast, easy parking and access - all topped off with helpful and friendly hosts. One of our better B&B stays anywhere.

Location, charm, style, food, WiFi, etc. Public transport to Jefferson's home or UofV and walk to town day or night.

Afton Log Cabin: Best Vacation Rental Cabin

You can find this tiny, darling, log cabin in the woods up in the mountains by googling the name. It's owned by a very nice lady name Jeanie. We rent the cabin every Christmas we're in Virginia. The two rooms downstairs are the bathroom and the main room that has a couch, rocking chair, armoire, stove, sink, fireplace, table and two chairs. To get upstairs, you climb a ladder. In the roof attic are a double bed, single bed and a night stand for each bed. You just can't get more simple than this. It even has it's private driveway with a locked gate on the road. Getting there is an adventure because the long, narrow, winding road up the mountain can be challenging, and your imagination constantly drums-up visions of falling off the side of the mountain.

Since the nearest airport is in Washington D.C., you can fly into Reagan or Dulles early in the morning, get a rental car, take in one or more Smithsonian Museums and then drive out to Afton, VA. One the way, you can stop to see Jefferson's home, Monticello. You have lots of restaurants and entertainment in Charlottesville. It's a lovely trip.
