Visit the Danville Museum of...

Visit the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History. It is the Last Capital of the Confederacy and our claim to fame. As the last days of the Confederate States of America drew to a close, the capital was moved from Richmond which was under seige, to Danville. President Jefferson Davis received word of the surrender at Appomattox while governing from The Sutherlin Mansion in Danville. It is now the museum of Fine Arts and of course History. The gift shop has many interesting historical replicas of games toys etc. Of course, my children were born here. Other than that, The Dan River, the town is built around it. You can't go far with out crossing the Dan. Two Dams and the leftovers of the hydroelectric plant that brought electricity to Danville.

What is there to say about Danville?
Been here 26 years and honestly I can't imagine anyone just "visiting" here. But I guess that's what everyone says about their hometown.
The restaurants are good...and there's a plenty of them. You have to hunt for them though. I personally recommend Rockola Cafe and Red Lobster on Piedmont Drive (next to the mall), and Texas Steakhouse on Riverside Drive.
We don't have many hotels, but do we really need many???? I've heard good things about Courtyard and Holiday Inn.
FYI...unfortunately, the crime rate is pretty high here.
We have one mall, one Walmart, one big theater on Riverside Drive (near K-Mart) and a couple of older theaters.
I know you are dying to visit!
