Danville is a growing community of a diverse group of citizens. Danville was the last town where Jeff Davis and hid remaining cabinet had set of a capital in one of the local homes. Afterward they moved south but, remained on the train that they had commissioned to take them through the south. Check internet searches for more info about the historic importance of Danville.
Danville was a mecca for Tobacco farming, & auctioneering of leaf throughout the past hundred years. Dan River fabrics was the largest employer for many years and was headquartered in Danville. The sign was being removed for safety in this photo.
Danville is a must visit for anyone wanting to taste the feeling of the old South and Southern Hospitality.
"Wreck of The Old 97"
Danville was made a household name when the song, "Wreck of the Old 97" was made popular. The wreck site and many references to it are still promoted through most tourist links to Danville.
"Danville in the Center of Nascar racing"
Danville is nearby several Nascar Race Tracks which include Martinsville, South Boston, and Virginia Intl. Raceway. You'll be within 30 minutes to any of the three. We are two hours from Charlotte, NC and Lowes Motor Speedway.
