Off the beaten path...sort of
If you are ever bored on a Sunday afternoon and the weather is nice, a great thing to do is to take a leisurely drive to Fredrick, Maryland. It is the drive, not the destination, that I want to mention here. Route 15 north until you get to the Potomac River is a beautiful drive with lots do and see along the way once you get through Leesburg. Dotted along the beautiful scenic route are antique shops, wineries, and roadside produce stands that sell huge variety of things like apple butter, homemade sausage, and peanut brittle. I personally love the fresh peaches and plums you can get along this route in the fall. Be warned that this road is twisty and narrow with a speed limit of 45mph, but many try to go a few mph faster; not recommended in inclement weather. One other thing, as you cross into Maryland there is an area called Point of Rocks that will give you a spectacular view of the Potomac.
