More about Brierley Hill Bed and Breakfast
comfortable, beautiful getaway
by TripAdvisor Member LOVEBandBs1
I have visited nearly all the bed and breakfasts in my home state and have a pretty thorough knowlege and appreciation for the challenges of running a successful B&B. I still toy with the idea of someday owning one myself. There are many things to consider when operating a B&B, more than I could mention here. in a short amount of time. Curb appeal, decor, meal planning, cleanliness, maintaining the property & grounds, generally providing all the comforts of home and then some and of course, the dedication of the innkeepers themselves being 'tied down' to their business. It takes a lot of committment and caring on their part to daily share their home with guests and tirelessly make them feel welcome.
Brierley Inn was a place quite successful at providing all of the above. It was a much needed respite from an extremely busy week. for me. A beautiful property including a mountain view, a kind voice on the phone, a terrific breakfast and lovely rooms filled with special touches. We loved the resident Retriever...she is a doll. And oh those oatmeal scotchies....they hit the spot. Joyce and Ken went out of their way to give us adequate accomodations and its a place we will never forget . We will certainly go back . I highly recommend making a visit to Lexington, Virginia, an interesting, wonderful town with an even better place to look forward to staying.

My husband and I travel extensively and have experienced many Inns in the last 26 years. Brierley Hill is one of our top 3 favorites. We have been there 4 times in the past year! Ken and Joyce go above and beyond to assure guests the comfort one would expect in a fine Inn. With spectacular views, fabulous food, exceptionally comfortable beds and hospitality second to none...Brierley Hill has it all!
Truly Exceptional

We just returned from our third trip to Brierley Hill and are already trying to figure out when we can go back! We've stayed in the Good Friends Suite twice, the Wedgewood Room once, and have spent countless hours relaxing with our best friends in the Magnolias Cottage Suite.
The setting of Brierley Hill is breathtaking, with a 360-degree view of the rolling hills of southwestern Virginia. The moment you make the turn onto the winding road that leads up to the beautiful house, you feel calm and peaceful. The landscaping is meticuously cared for, but not in a way that makes you afraid to walk anywhere. You get a sense that the caretakers are more like care-givers, making sure that the plants, trees, flowers, bushes and grass have what they need to thrive and provide beautiful backdrops for special gatherings of close friends and family staying at the inn.
Stepping through the front door of Brierley Hill is like coming home--only much more relaxing! Ken and Joyce Hawkins are the most gracious and guest-focused proprietors we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. They anticipate and take care of your every need, make you feel like you're an important member of their family, and never intrude upon your privacy. You immediately feel welcome and at ease as they greet you and inquire about your choice of beverage for breakfast the next morning. (Mmmm....breakfast... that warrants a paragraph all by itself!) From that moment, you know you're in for a special stay.
Each guest room is different from the next, and all are decorated with beautiful, warm, and lovingly selected furniture and fabrics. Although Brierley Hill is a self-described country inn, each room has all the modern conveniences that make things a little sweeter. Each room has its own bathroom--some with showers and some with tubs--with great lighting, a hairdryer, and sumptuous towels. All rooms have spectacular views, and some have fireplaces. Each has cable television and a DVD player -- although we strongly recommend curling up with a book instead of watching television!
The beds are extremely comfortable -- particularly in the Wedgewood Room where we just stayed. The bed was so comfortable that we didn't want to fall asleep too soon because then we wouldn't be able to enjoy the wonderful feeling of being so cozy!
And just when you're ready for a little something special in the afternoon, a plate suddenly appears outside your room filled with yummy baked treats like peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and easily the best brownies this side of the Mississippi!
Which brings us to breakfast. One of the greatest pleasures in life is sitting down to a Brierley Hill breakfast while overlooking the gorgeous scenery. From the lip-smackingly scrumptious peaches and cream brulee French toast to the savory and delectable egg casseroles, the day starts with a bang -- which could very likely be from your button popping!
Finally, for the dog lover visiting Brierley Hill, there's Daisy--the innkeeper's adorable golden retriever. If she had a business card, it would read: "Chief Cuteness Officer". But if you didn't know that Daisy existed, you would never know she was around. She doesn't come into any of the guest areas, and there isn't one dog hair in sight (except for the ones we probably brought in on our clothes from our own dog!). But if you need a cuteness fix, take a stroll around the house...you'll probably catch Daisy chasing her tail in the side yard!
Whether you're planning a trip to visit a son or daughter at college, a family reunion or special event, or an intimate getaway for two, Brierley Hill is a special place that is not to be missed.
Loved this B&B!

This B&B couldn't have been better. The rooms, food and views were all fabulous, and the couple running it were so helpful and kind...It was a beautiful place to stay, and I hope that we can return in the future. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys wonderful people, scenery and excellent meals. The location near town was also very convenient.
Wonderful weekend!

My girlfriend and I went to my cousin's wedding in Lexington, and chose Brierley Hill over the block of rooms at the Best Western... and I am SO glad we did! The property is beautiful, Ken and Joyce were extremely nice, Daisy (their dog) was adorable, and the breakfasts were unique and delicious. They took our picture on the veranda and gave it to us in a keepsake frame, and even followed up with a note via email to thank us for coming, and congratulating us on the rain holding off for the wedding. Just an all-around, five star, fantastic weekend. I couldn't recommend them more!
Beautiful View - Spotless Accomodations - PEACEFUL!!!
by TripAdvisor Member CindyA_PA
My friend and I indulged in a girlfriend's get-away, while our husbands were at the Goshen Scout Reservation. We stayed in the Wedgewood Room and had beautiful views from all SIX windows! Brierley Hill is a very short distance from the quaint town of Lexington - a five minute drive was all it took. During our stay the weather was reaching the 90's and it was wonderful to sit on the porch and enjoy the breezes and listen to the mockingbird singing away. The rooms are spotless - and the hosts make wonderful breakfasts for you. Additionally, there were fresh cookies and chocolates put out daily - and they have a single-serving coffee/tea appliance and guest refrigerator for your use as well. They also have a dedicated computer for guests to use, as well as offer open wifi broadband. We used their restaurant binder to decide where to eat nightly, and found the guest comments helpful. Finally, they have a very well-behaved dog, named Daisy, who LOVES to be petted. She is kept on their private porch and isn't allowed in the guest area, but we couldn't resist visiting her!
Magnificient Views and Gracious Service

This was a wonderful bed and breakfast experience for me and my husband. The house itself is beautiful and well cared for. The owner greeted us at the door and showed us around while explaining the amenities, etc. One thing that impressed us the most was that they had taken the time to make special snacks for us to accomodate our way of eating (we are vegans). No one has ever done that before and we have stayed at many bed and breakfast facilities.
The room itself was lovely and clean with a great view of the Blue Ridge mountains. There is a view from just about any window in the house as it is on a high hill with a sweeping panarama in front.
The next morning we had a delicious breakfast on the porch while enjoying the early breezes. When we checked out, the owner took our picture and then printed it out and framed it for us to take home as a memento - something else that we have not experienced before. All in all, it was an excellent visit and we would recommend Brierley Hill strongly.

My wife and I just returned from a weekend in Lexington, VA where we attended a wedding. We decided to try The Brierly Hill Bed and Breakfast for our two night stay and we were not disappointed.
From the time we arrived to the time we left, we were treated to great breakfasts, spotless accomodations, gracious hosts and peace & quiet.
We highly recommend The Brierly Hill B&B and hope to go back again.
A Whopping Fine Place with Great Owners and Sensational Views
by TripAdvisor Member ManhattanNYTraveler
Brierley Hill is the true essence of a romantic getaway or just a "I need to get away this weekend" destination. Joyce and Ken, with their roots in the South, know a thing about hospitality, yet they are not the least bit intrusive. Their home with its many lovely, beautifully furnished rooms is most welcoming and relaxing. Nothing is taken for granted. Their art and collectibles are quite fascinating. Our room had all the amenities you might expect, including a glorious climb-up bed. The public areas are comfortable with a computer access and 24/7 snack and coffee/soft drinks, DVC Library "den." Their breakfasts, whether eaten in the dining room or on the outside balconies, are sensational and come with incredible views. At night, the road leading to Brierley Hill is deer heaven. Just stop and watch them frolic on the road side and leap across [do drive very slowly]. Brierley Hill, close enough to what you need to be close to and just far away from it, too, is an incredible find. Oh, and you will always remember meeting Daisy, the sweetest, quietest dog in the world. And when it comes to "begging" for a breakfast crumb, she could easily win an Academy Award!
What a view!!

We had a great time visiting the Shenandoah Valley area around Lexington, VA and the Brierley Hill Bed and Breakfast. We spent one night there. It was very peaceful and quiet with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. Just what we needed for some relaxation. We enjoyed reading on the porch, sitting in the gazebo and watching a late night movie in the room. Our room was comfortable and well decorated. The breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed all of the hospitality and charm of this lovely place. We certainly recommend it for a quiet place to get away.
