More about The Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner

elegant hotel, worth the trip if you get a deal

by TripAdvisor Member Corgimom

Stayed at this hotel for three nights in late February. Beautiful hotel with an exceptional catering staff. Lobby is elegant and warm with wood paneling and fireplace. Front desk staff warm and quick (I checked in late at night, though - no lines).
Room was beautiful but not large. Bed was comfy with pillow top mattress and nice linens. Furniture was new but TV seemed old. Had to call to get the remote replaced. I had a small credenza with mini-bar in the foyer (not sure if this is in all rooms). The hotel provides a plush robe and turn down service with chocolates. Two bottles of water and a fruit plate were left on my credenza but may have been a thank-you from the staff for holding my meeting at the hotel.
Bath toiletries were wonderful but the bath is quite small for Ritz standards. The room was always clean but the airconditioning wasn't as strong as I like (yes, it was winter, but the hotel room stayed around 70 degrees no matter what the thermostat said - too warm for sleeping comfortably with a blanket).
Food during our stay was outstanding. The only problem encountered was the ice machine on both 16 and 17 were out of service my entire stay, with no "out of order" sign. I called room service for ice once and tracked down one of the turndown attendants on another ice trip. That was disappointing but wouldn't prevent me from returning. I would stay here again if the rate was again under $250.

Club Floor provides 5 Star Service

by TripAdvisor Member Nolan64

There is one individual who makes a stay on the club floor at the Ritz average or outstanding, the concierge. At the Tyson's Corner Ritz, the individual who makes it all come together is Sharma. She put her self and her staff out there 110% and as a business traveller it makes all the difference. There was no detail too small, or request too big that she wouldn't try and fill. She knew every guest's name, and made everyone feel like they were coming home.

Now I do want to add that this is a Ritz, so the rooms are pleasant, the staff on the whole are very welcoming, and children are well cared for. If you can afford this luxury, I highly recommend this hotel.

Great service and great shopping!!!

by TripAdvisor Member Erikan25

My sister and I went for an overnight shopping trip and stayed on the club level floor. The service and food were fabulous!!! There is an exceptional lady that works on the club floor, her name is Shima. She made our stay very enjoyable.
I highly recommend this property for great shopping and fabulous dinning!!

Really Lovely

If you are going to stay in the D.C. area and you want luxury but don't want to pay ridiculous D.C. prices than this is your hotel.

The hotel is extremely luxurious, the staff is friendly, the rooms are beautiful, and the bath rooms are nicely appointed. Everywhere you look there is more marble, granite or luxurious paintings.

You can get very good rates by calling up the Ritz Carlton reservation line and asking about specials, and AAA, Entertainment card membership discounts.

I have mixed feelings about dining in the hotel. We ate at the hotel several times.
The Maestro was phenomenal! I really recommend eating there. Their 3 course meals are reasonably priced, for the amazing quality, except for their tea which we were charged $8 a cup for. Other than the tea this restaurant is really incredible.

Right beside Maestro was The Steakhouse , which was a total disappointment. Overpriced, bland food and mediocre service. I do not suggest going there for dinner

The Cheesecake Factory in the mall next door offers very reasonably priced meals and great selection. I really love that restaurant for dinners out.

Nice if the Price is right

My wife, daughter (age 10) and I stayed here at the start of a one week vacation to the DC area and to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I had originally booked another property but noted that the Ritz had a weekend AAA rate of $170/night. The hotel is away from the DC attractions but is in a very nice shopping and business district (Tyson's Corner area). In fact, the hotel is directly attached to a high-end mall. The property is attractive and well maintained. the rooms are nice but on the small side. Room did not have any bathrobes and only one pair of slippers. Old fashioned, small TV was unimpressive. Soaps and shampoos were really low end for a hotel of this "caliber".

We did not eat in the hotel's restaurant because there are many nice choices in the area. Went down to the pool at about 5PM on Sunday afternoon to take my daughter for a swim and immediately were denied access to the pool. It was not children's swim time and despite the pool being completely empty we were not allowed in. The spa attendant told us that other guests might be disturbed. I guess it id the hotel's policy to discriminate based on age (even a quiet, well-behaved child with adult supervision was not welcome to use an empty pool). I called the on duty manager and got nowhere. He offered to write an e-mail to someone who would not even be at work until the next day.

Weekend parking is essentially free in a lot that is adjacent to the hotel. If you don't wish towalk the 75 feet yourself you can pay $25/day to have the valet get your car. We did have to pay $5 when we left the lot on Monday AM. The potential for extending our stay (weekday rate $399/night for the same room) ended following the pool situation. We went on to the Westin in Arlington and found them more service oriented and much closer to town, the Metro, etc).

I attempted to contact the hotel general manager by e-mail to discuss my concerns. As of this writing my letter has been ignored. My feeling is that they are resting on their reputation and are lacking the attention to detail that makes a property exceptional.

For $170 a night I would give it a chance. For $400 a night I think that a person/family could do much better elsewhere. I'm glad we checked out when we did and personally I have no intention of staying there again.
