Absolutely beautiful old charm!!

Spent one night at the Hotel Roanoke, a DoubleTree by Hiton hotel. It was absolutely beautiful, you feel like you step back in time as enter the door and even as you see the building on a little hill. Inside the hotel, it feels like nothing has changed since it was opened in the late 1800's. The pool was beautiful and a great relief to the outside temp.

Unique Quality: Outside decor, inside decor and the feel you get when you enter the building.

Roanoke's Historic Hotel

The Hotel Roanoke is a large historic hotel that sits on a hill across the railroad tracks from downtown Roanoke. It is owned by Virginia Tech (the nearby state university) and managed by the Doubletree hotel chain. The rooms are rather small, but nicely decorated. The highlight of the hotel are its common areas, which full of character. THere is a conference center attached to the hotel with ballrooms and conference rooms. THe hotel also has a good restaurant.

The hotel is connected to downtown Roanoke via a covered pedestrian bridge.

Nicest and closest to Downtown

Hotel Roanoke is a little pricey for the type of room you'll get, this is an old hotel, even though it has been completely remodeled the rooms are a bit small. It is a great location, as it is next to the rail line and has a walking bridge that connects you directly to the nightlife and restaurants of downtown. The Pine room here is a great place to kick back and enjoy and nice brandy while winding down.

Unique Quality: This place really is a great place to stay if you are from out of town and want a night out on the town without having to worry about the incredibly harsh DUI laws. In VA now they say 1 1/2-2 beers (.06) and you are unfit to drive, so this place caters to you if you want to have a good time without the worry. Most of the popular clubs and restaurants are within walking distance, and if you just want to stay in the Pine Room and have a few then that is enjoyable as well. One very cool event I went to here last year was the Ms VA pageant after party, I think it was late June, and is held here every year. An all around beautiful hotel!

Roanoke's Premier HOTEL

If you can afford to $pend around $150.00 or more a night. This is the place to stay. It offers a 4 star stay.

I, myself, have never stayed here. But also to I cannot afford to. (O:

Unique Quality: This hotel has history in itself. Has been here since (I beleive) the 1800s, the Hotel has been burned almost all the way down.

Was closed till VA Tech (College) reopened it. It looks like an old English Tudor type style home. or should I say MANSION. LOL

THE Hotel in Roanoke

This place is really special - its got history, is huge and a delight to explore. But its also friendly, the staff are lovely and its not even that expensive. The "pub" serves great bar meals and the staff are great.

Unique Quality: Built in 1882 its old and despite a modern makeover still his loads of character.

Unique Quality: Nestled in the heart of the spectacular Blue Ridge Mountains, The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center welcomes you with warm Southern hospitality and all the amenities and services you’d expect of a four-diamond hotel.

This historic hotel was the center of our city even before the name Roanoke was chosen. Now it has been completely restored and remodeled. From the Florentine marble floors to the vaulted ceilings, the vintage 1882 hotel has been lovingly restored to its rich, 19th century elegance and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

More about The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center

Beautiful hotel but needs attention to basics

by TripAdvisor Member sarahuffer

I stayed at Hotel Roanoke with a wedding party. Nearly every person had problems with their room. The worst was the bride's room. She was put in a suite directly above the club. The pounding bass kept her awake all night before her wedding. Apparently this is a known problem and the room ends up getting comped more often than not. She would have appreciated a warning. In my room the toilet and the TV didn't work, and the bed was uncomfortable. Another couple's room wasn't ready at 5pm when they arrived for the rehearsal dinner. Yet another room the drapery rod fell out of the ceiling when they opened the drapes!

wonderful stay

very happy with our overnight stay at the historic hotel roanoke---would stay again if ever in the area. our room was great and very comfortable. the lobby was lovely as was the whole hotel. our meal and drinks were also very satisfactory.

Low class rooms, high price...

by TripAdvisor Member October21

My wife and I stayed overnight in a single queen room. The air conditioner clicked extrememly loudly all night, everytime it cut on, causing us to not sleep well. The television had a strange green tint to it which could not be improved using the adjustment controls. The room was tiny, with the bed shoe-horned into it in such a manner that one could BARELY walk around the room. Overall, it was an atrocious experience, and I would prefer a cheaper Holiday Inn, etc. to the accomodations we had at Hotel Roanoke. Value is a 1 out of 5. We paid over $150.00 for one night in a sub-par room.

The rudest staff, overpriced, least helpful

by TripAdvisor Member TheLastTrojan

The worst possible reservation system -- the hotel staff was least friendly in changing reservations. Did not help AT ALL in decorating the room for my wedding night .. had to do it all by myself. Overpriced.... Stay at Wyndham Suites.. a much better option.
