What a treat!

We've always enjoyed the bed and breakfast experience and try to stay at one anywhere we travel. The Barcley Cottage is definitely one of the nicest we've ever stayed at...talk about the little things making all the difference! The hosts are not only extremely accomodating and go above and beyond as far as making you comfortable, but they're also hilarious! They had us cracking up every morning at breakfast with their stories...a truly interactive and entertaining experience. They're very helpful in planning your stay, know what restaurants to recommend and what's worth seeing while in Virginia Beach. The Cottage itself is beautifully appointed and comfortable, and located within a walking distance to the beach - it's a treat since you have to pay for parking on the beach strip.
If you're looking for some good laughs, great conversation and excellent food (oh, the food is delicious!) this is your place! We'd go back there in a heart beat!

Steve and Marie Louise are the most wonderful hosts, and this B & B is beautiful! From the comfortable, impecable rooms, to the terrific breakfasts, great hospitality, this B & B is a MUST STAY! Great location, great value for the rates! Do yourselves a favor and check it out!
Wonderful Breakfast, Great Location

Hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to insure your visit is most enjoyable. The bountiful and delicious breakfasts are the perfect way to start the day. Steve and Marie-Louise offer great tips for touring and dining around the area. We lingered over breakfasts so as not to miss the stories.
It's quiet, yet convenient location - a short walk to the beach, with the wonderful 2nd story porch and comfortable wicker rockers (even in December a relaxing spot for a northerner), and extremely comfortable rooms, make this the ideal home for a beach visit.

We stayed at Barclay Cottage for 2 nights and purchased the whale watching excursion, which was offered on their website. Stephen and Marie-Louise were wonderful hosts. On our arrival, their was a plate of homemade cookies in our room, which was a really nice touch. I can't say enough about their gourmet breakfasts! The cottage is located a few blocks from the beach but on a quiet street. Overall, this was one of the best B&B's that we have ever stayed in.

Marie Louise and Steve are the perfect host, catering to all your wants and needs. It was our anniversary and upon request, Marie Louise and Steve provided flowers, champagne and a "Happy Anniversary" banner to greet my wife when we arrived! WOW! The Barclay is well kept up with lots of history and flair. It is walking to the beach, stores, great restaurants and bars. Far enough from the noise. And did I mention how great a cook Marie Louise is!

Our experience at the Barclay Cottage (and in Virginia Beach) was absolutely perfect. The locals are very friendly. Marie-Louise and Steve are the most wonderful hosts a person could ask for. Our stay was filled with home cooked gourmet breakfasts, candy and flower surprises in the bedroom, and selfless courteousy from the innkeepers, especially on the day of our wedding. With the numerous activities available and the romantic atmosphere, it was the ideal location for a wedding and a honeymoon.

Staying at Barclay Cottage was like living a good dream over & over again. The innkeepers, Steven & Marie-Louise, are the most caring, delightful, hospitable people you could ever hope to meet. My husband & I were treated like family during our 4 days at the cottage. Marie-Louise makes (and I am not joking here) the most fabulous breakfasts you could imagine. Home made muffins & pastries, fruit dolled up with whipped cream, yogurt & spices and the most amazing, unique hot entrees.
You are missing out on a fabulous Bed & Breakfast experince if you don't visit Barclay Cottage!!!
It's Just SO Special...

OK. Even I...the ultimate hotel snob...can say nothing BUT the Barclay Cottage is just wonderful. The innkeepers are accommodating, cordial and highly professional. The inn is historic and filled with delightful remembrances collected by its former and present owners. The bedrooms are charming, comfortable and beautifully appointed. Lovely quits, soft sheets, thirsty towels and other amenities are all first rate. The beds themselves are way too difficult to leave...even when the best breakfast in town awaits you in the dining room. The wraparound porches on both floors are cool and inviting perches where you can rock your cares away in the most pleasant of surroundings. The fully stocked snack closet is very inviting as are the many tempting dishes of miniature chocolates found here and there throughout the Cottage. Thank goodness the beach and boardwalk are a few short blocks from the Cottage so you walk away the guilt -- and calories -- from any overindulgence. Mary Louise and Steve...only special people could create such a special place! Thanks so much for this treasure.
The Best B & B in Virginia

My fiance and I stayed in our first American B & B, not knowing what to expect. Barclay Cttage and its owners, Steve and Marie-Louise, both exceeded our expectations. We loved the beautiful decor, ultra-comfortable beds (best night's sleep ever!), delicious breakfasts, chats with the owners regarding other restaraunts in the area, reasonable rate, and overall relaxing ambience. The beach is only a short walk away.
It was also reassuring to note the other guests visit all the way from Belgium on a somewhat regular basis because they enjoy the cottage so much. Any guest there will not be disappointed. We will definitely return, hoping to bring more family for an even better vacation.
