VB in October

by Earnelle

We'll be in Virginia Beach in October. Are many merchants open on the boardwalk?
How about restaurants? I know it's off-season, but any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Some of the smaller restaurants are closed, but most of the better ones are open year round. Unlike other cities' boardwalks, there are very few merchants on our Boardwalk. Most shops are located on Atlantic Avenue. Many remain open year round, but some of the smaller ones close in October. Excellent shopping exists in Virginia Beach, but not all at the Oceanfront. Virginia Beach is the largest city in the US with over 420 sq miles. There are many small villages (eg. Pungo, Kempsville, Princess Anne, Sandbridge, Oceanfront, West Neck, Great Neck, etc.) and a new (under construction) Town Center. There are many activities year round and the area is becoming known as a year round resort destination.

Travel Tips for Virginia Beach

Places to go running

by dln6874

There's are several places you can go to for a nice run.

The oceanfront boardwalk (take I-264E all the way down) is about 5 miles if you run up and down the entire length.

Mount Trashmore (immediately off to the left after getting off Independece exit towards Princess Anne off of I-264) is a nice short run (~2 miles, if even) around a lake and hill.

Seashore State Park (off of Shore Dr.) stretches several miles in shade. You have to pay to get in by car, but there are places you can park off the corner of Great Neck and Shore Dr. and catch a side trail that leads into the park.

Visitors to Hampton Roads renting a car, take a drive through the longest bridge tunnel system in the world!! The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Bring some cash though, 'cause this 17.6 miles of subterranean fun can cost around $10 ... each way! Ohh .. make sure you have enough umm ... gas!! :)

Budget I ordered a cheese pizza from here when we were on our way home from Newport News. We got here before they had even put it into the oven so I took the pictures of the storefront while I was in the car waiting for Bob to come out with the pizza.

Virginia Beach Ampitheater. The place for all types of concerts.Anything from Opera to Brittny Spears! Guess which one gets sold out same day? :)

Contemporary Art Center of Virginia: Contemporary art in all its forms, from sculpture, painting and glass to still photography and the moving image. Great place for those who love art!

Located in Williamsburg, which is an hour away by car. A popular theme park destination for the entire family. The park is divided into well-designed sections representing 17th-century Europe: There's San Marco, Italy, Rhinefeld and Oktoberfest in Germany, London's the Hastings, Aquitaine and New France, and Heatherdowns, Scotland. The newcomer on the block is Ireland.
The roller coasters at Busch Gardens are some of the best.If you have a weak stomach, then try there new zoo. Great fun specially if you have kidds!
