Isle of Wight County Fair by Goner
The second week of September there is an old-fashioned fair held in a field on the outskirts of Smithfield. It's a family affair featuring livestock, local crafts, amusements, rides and a variety of local foods. It's known for having the largest traveling mid-way. The kiddies will enjoy petting the baby animals. I enjoyed trying the hush puppies and crabcakes. Others enjoyed the barbeque they considered "the best".Smithfield and the surrounding areas are steeped in history and saw much action during the Revolutionary War. Smithfield sits across from Jamestown which is worthy of another day's visit. Smithsfield has many monuments to see and a few antique stores I would like to have visited.
