Fun Stay!

Myself and 2 friends stayed at the Sunspree May 30 - June 1, 2009. We had an outstanding time!
Although the hotel is a bit older and could use a facelift, the location and facilities were perfect! You get what you pay for with this hotel. It's not the Hilton, but it is oceanfront, and on the north end of the boardwalk. The room was sufficient with comfy beds and plenty of hot water. The outdoor pool was beautiful, and the lazy river was much more fun than expected.
This is a kid friendly hotel, so there are lots of families present, but that didn't take away from the fun of our over 30 adult get-away. There was plenty of room for everyone at the Sunspree.
The staff was friendly and accomodating. When my friends arrived, they couldn't give me a parking pass for their vehicle because the garage was full; however, they were able to valet park their car free of charge.
I would recommend the Sunspree as a budget concience option to a beach vacation.

Unique Quality: Beautiful views of the ocean and boardwalk. Perfect oceanside pool and indoor lazy river.

A great place to stay

From the moment we arrived until we left after 14 night ALL the staff were fantastic, we couldn't fault anyone. They went out of their way to speak to us even if just passing in the hallways. The front desk staff were so helpful in phoning for cabs as we didn't have our own transport, especially Nikki,. The poolside bar staff (where we spent alot of time) always chatted to us and explained in great detail the rules of American Football. We will be now watching the scores of V Tech and the Redskins with interest!! The Isle of Capri resturant was reached by its own glass elevator and the food was fab,(being married to an Italian) we couldn't fault it. The hotel also had its own bike stand from which you hire either single or family bikes which were great fun riding along the special bike track beside the boardwalk.

Unique Quality: The pools were fab, there is a large outside pool with a bridge over and two jets of water streaming from 2 large wonderful fish. Even the shape of the pool is unusual. The in door pool was always a good temp and it was rounded off with 2 jacuzzis. There was also another room which housed the lazy river which was great fun. There is a large waterfall running throughout the river so you just got taken with the flow. The good thing about the pool were they are open from 8am until 11pm meaning there was always a time to use them without being crowded even when the hotel was full. The staff who maintained the general areas as well as the pools were great and there were always a large stack of towels in all three pool areas. From the terrace around the outsie pool you walked directly across the boardwalk onto a glorious sandy beach. All the hotel rooms were very well equipted and had great views of the beach from their big balconies. The kids room(which we didn't need) has a resident tortiose Tonka who we even without kids were made very welcome to go in and see, (which we did).

A pretty good place to stay if you have kids

by A TripAdvisor Member

The lobby is pretty cool, they have a Spong Bob DvD playing 24/7 and Spong Bob chairs to entertain the kids during your check in. They have a cool lazy river for the family that is seperate from the main pool, which is nice because the kids can be as noisy as they want. The room was right on the ocean, that was awesome!!! and it is far enough down form all the hubub that you could get some relaxing time. They also have this cool kids stop place that your kids can feed a tortise. The front desk staff was courtious, but a little clueless. BUT.. They are still redecorating and it makes the hotel look a little dirty they seem to employ mostly college kids that don't really care about your stay. The resturant's service is hit or miss, and the menu's overpriced, even with the kids eating free you'll still pay at least 25.00 to eat there. And, the Conciargie is the WORST, they gave us wrong directions for the trolly, my husband had to go to the ER while we were there and they gave us poor directions to it and when I called down to ask about the ER no one even offered to be of any kind of assistance. Also, the chloreene level in the pool was really bad and made your eyes burn. The outside pool was really dirty. Overall, is could have been better, but our view I'd deffinetly go back, but maybe not stay there.

Great Location - Overpriced for the Condition

by TripAdvisor Member JFish

We arrived at midnight with two sleepy young boys...the staff was very attentive, just not very enthusiastic. Their on-site security did help us find a parking spot, but no one offered to help with the luggage.

That night we had problems with the soda machine, we were reimbursed w/o question and the staff got us the soda we wanted.

The hotel seemed to be under some renovation, the hallway baseboards were being replaced on the first floor of main building. Our oceanfront room location was great! However, not in the best condition. The bathroom shower/tub caulking was stained with mold! The toilet kept running, and the paper was almost out. The bed springboard cover was stained. The sheets weren't exactly the best either, but we made due since it was so late. We were a bit uneasy falling asleep.

The service, location, and lazy river pool made it worthwhile. The hotel was quiet and public trolley/bus transportation was ideal!

Overall, not worth the money we paid for the condition of the room.

Holiday Inn Sunspree...a great vacation!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree several times and have enjoyed it immensely! We have never had a dirty room, ever. The outdoor pool is SO pretty and the kids just love it. We have always enjoyed our stay here and can't wait to return this Summer.... Highly recommend! We haven't seen the new lazy river yet, the kids are excited to see it this Summer.

I am reporting hotel to Board of Health

by A TripAdvisor Member

This vacation began with the reservations not being correct. The service was continually worse from then on. The rooms were not cleaned. Dirty coffee cups were left on the counter,( dirty glasses were not picked up either) . The mirrors were not touched, nor was the bathroom. The cap on the faucet fell off, and bugs flew out of the sink. The breakfast food from room service (on every floor) was left in the dirty hallway, in the sun, all day. When there were enough complaints, the cleaning crew took the trays and put them in the floor of the linen closets overnight. We ran out of toilet paper (since it was not replaced) and we were told they couldn't tell us how long it would take to get it to us. Overall: Health Violations! + rude service!

we were shocked

its hard to describe ,how about a dirty crowded fawlty towers, pack them in like a subway station horrid and no humour,a must to avoid i found pills on the floor a fridge tray sloshing with dirty water a filthy bathroom i lasted 1 hour.

Don't do it if Cleanliness is important to you!

We "stayed" at the Holiday Inn Sunspree in June, 2004. We tried to make the best of the disgusting accomodations, but vacated the same day we checked in. When we lifted up the ratty comforter on one of the beds, we found some coins, a gum wrapper, unwrapped mints, various crumbs, and a toothpick. We requested that housekeeping come to vacuum the filthy floor, but no one ever came. The bathroom was overflowing with mold and peeling wallcoverings. The lazy river was dirty and the attractive outdoor pool was full of sand. The best part was when we asked the manager to give us our money back so we could get out of there. I had the feeling that he was accustomed to dealing with unsatisfied customers. Hope this helps!

Won't Be Back!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We were very disappointed with our stay at the Sunspree and we won't be back. We have stayed at other Sunspree resorts (Orlando) and loved it. This Sunspree was overcrowded and overpriced. We felt claustrophobic for our entire stay. There were only 2 elevators for the entire hotel and we spent a great deal of time just waiting for one. The overall layout of this hotel forces guests through narrow hallways which always seem to be overcrowded. Our room was just satisfactory. The beds were lumpy, hard and small. We had to go and buy our own pillows because the ones from the hotel were disintigrated on the inside. The room itself was quite small and not very clean. We were so disappointed that we only spent 2 nights out of a planned 5 night stay. We will not be back!
