driving time from Norfolk International Airport

by oldjayhawk

How long does it take to drive from Norfolk airport to Virginia Beach on an average Friday early afternoon in August? Is the traffic heavy due to beach traffic in the summer?

RE: driving time from Norfolk International Airport

by Vatravelers

In one simple word --- Yes. Traffic is always heavy in Norfolk and Va. Beach. Your travel time will depend on the exact time of day. Not only do you have beach traffic, but you have base traffic as well. People who work at Norfolk Naval base and live in Va. Beach. It also depends on where in Va. Beach you are headed. If you are headed to the resort strip on Fri. afternoon from the Norfolk airport you will probably want to plan on about 30-45 minutes travel time, if there are no accidents or other traffic tie ups.

Travel Tips for Virginia Beach

Go to Sandbridge!

by holligolytly

Every summer my family would rent a cottage on the oceanfront called the Templeton Summit for a week or so. Sandbridge is very unique because it still remains 'un-touristy' compared to Virginia Beach oceanfront.

Virginia Beach in winter

by chewy3326

VA Beach may not be quite as exciting in winter, and you definitely won't be able to sit on the beach and relax (well, maybe with a heavy jacket you could...), but it's still worth coming in winter. Besides the very obvious plus that there are no crowds, you can still visit historic areas as well as take whale-watching tours. It's a different beach experience

Very popular place to go and great view!

by vbeatso about Mahi Mah's

Not the best food ever, but is busy year round and the standard and good seafood, and is pretty dependable. They are great to locals and so there are many locals that will be mixed in with tourists in the busy months. They have great specials and include the year round happy hour 35cent wings, oysters, and clams from 3-6pm. And always check the coupon books for discounts for all boardwalk restaurants almost all of them have some sort of discount which you might as well use if you are going there anyway. They also have a sushi bar and Monday nights there is half price sushi which may not be during the busy season, but for sure in the off season. The view.

Excellent seafood

by blondeinchesta about Mahi Mah's

The food is excellent. They have a sushi bar and 3:00-6:00pm specials on wings, oysters and clams. They have different drink specials every day. Beautiful oceanfront dining. I absolutely love the wings and oysters. Their sushi is great also.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

by bugalugs

The bridge I assume was built with part tunnels to allow the many ships to pass through. There are battle ships, nuclear submarines, aircraft carriers, cruise and cargo ships that pass through here daily. There are plaques describing the ships and their names. This channel is called the Thimble Shoal Channel.
