Heading to Virginia Beach in June

by thecatsmeow

Hi all! I am heading to Virginia Beach in June and thinking of staying at the Best Western Beach Quarters Inn. We can get three free nights with our points.
We are flying in for a wedding and going to be staying for five nights. Looking to do some sightseeing and such also. Just would like some input on the hotel choice. Don't know the groom to be so am asking my faithful VT.
Thanks a bunch.

RE: Heading to Virginia Beach in June

Hi Joyce,

The best place I would say is on the ocean front in the summer. This is if you want to be in the middle of everything that's going on. There are tons of hotels out there, and its right on the beach. Because of this, however, it will be a bit pricey and will fill up quick. You are coming in June, so that’s peak season. If you stay here though there are lots of things going on at the boardwalk every night. Live music - the works. Check out www.hamptonroads.com for what goes on specifically. I believe this has info on hotels, restaurants, events, and many other things. Of course for events there will be more listed closer to the time you come. This site has info for all neighboring cities. You would probably want to focus on VA Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake. They would probably be the closest with the most going on. I don’t know what you're really into, but if you let me know, I would be glad to fill you in on some great things. I live in Chesapeake, but attend college in VA Beach. I actually lived in Va beach this summer and loved it. I'm sure you will have a wonderful trip. Let me know if there are specific things you would like to know about.

Visit my VA beach page just to get a little insite as to what the beach looks like. It's not as updated as I'd like, but it will give you insite. Staying on the beach is expensive, and personally, I wouldn't, and as of yet, I have not found a restaurant that I want to add to my site. Most of the recommendations that I have had have been off the beaten track. It's an interesting place to visit, but I prefer the eastern shore to VA beach, or the NorthCarolina shore.~

Travel Tips for Virginia Beach

Be Comfortable and wear comfortable.

by zanzooni

Well, ofcourse the bathing suit is a neccessity as well as a light sweater or sweat shirt. I did not see any bathrooms where one can change, so bring something you can throw over your suit if this is just a day trip, if not, go back to the hotel and shower, and change..but bring a sweater. I wish we had, as the restaurants are cold. Sunscreen, aloe gel, lotion. Anything for sunburn, if you are careless and forget that the worst burns occur on overcast/cloudy days, and one can get tanned or burnt later in the day as well. Your standard picture taking equipment. I have found in the past, that the salt air can wreak havoc with one's cameras. So take neccessary precautions.

Blue Ridge Parkway

by Goner

Built during the Depression, the Blue Ridge Parkway is the nation's longest rural parkway connecting Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smokey Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The design of the parkway was an engineering stroke of genius for its time

This drive is ranked as "America's most scenic drive" by leading travel writers. The Blue Ridge Parkway leads travelers through the forested mountains passing several intriguing stops along the way.

Designed as a drive awhile - stop awhile recreational drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway provides both stunning scenery and close-up looks at the natural and cultural history of the southern Appalachian mountains along its 469 miles. It has turnouts at overlooks, picnic and camping facilities, trails, and wonderful cultural and natural areas.

For park information on for up-to-date gate closures and weather-related information see the phone number listed below.

IL Giardino Ristorante

by RayB73001 about IL Giardino Ristorante

The atmosphere is nice so please don't wear shorts and a t-shirt. Linguine and backfin crabmeat in a cognac tomato cream sauce. It is not on the menu but is a house special everyday.

The faccasia (sp?) bread is out of this world!!!

Do some people watching

by Herkbert

It's a beach and there are lots of people there, so find a few that are easy on the eyes and flash a smile. Pretty women and handsome guys were everywhere - on the beach and out at night - so have fun!

Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel

by Goner

A modern engineering wonder on US 13 spanning 17.6 miles across the Chesapeake Bay. Both a tourist attraction and travel convenience, the Bridge-Tunnel saves motorists time and mileage between Virginia Beach/Norfolk and New York. Fishing pier, gift shop and restaurant located on the South Island. There is a $10 charge to cross the bridge and a 24-hour round-trip toll rate is available.

It’s particularly interesting for me as the company I work for built the new addition to the bridge.
