Walkin the dog!
Every morning and early evening you will find many people walking their dogs along the boardwalk. Not sure if this is for exercising the dog or the human, but not a bad idea if you bring your pet, to take them for a walk.

Hi there.
Im looking for a hotel, Searching through the lists Its pretty hard having never been to Virginia beach so Im setting down the challenge to fellow forum members... based on the information below.. can anyone provide some advice and possible accomodation to investigate.
we would be there first week of august
There will be approx 4-6 people
All boys
We are aged between 26 and 28 and all come from London , England
We are planning to spend a week in Virginia beach
We like sports, would like a pool at the hotel,
Doesnt necessarily need to be on the waterfront, but would like to be able to walk to the beach
We like golf
We like to go out... and would prefer a younger/single orientated accomodation as will be out most nights to the bars partying etc.
We are looking for moderate accomodation... say 150 bucks per room (2 beds) per night.
thats about it.. hope the information stimulates some of the locals into having a think and making our stay in virginia beach as memorable as possible!!
Oh and if you want to toss in any unusual places to go things to do.. I would love ya forever.
Richie
you would do better to rent a condo or a home you will get more for your money and more room.

Portsmouth has been a ship building town from its founding in 1752. The Norfolk Naval Shipyard (which is here and not in Norfolk at all) was begun here in 1767, and it's repair record extends from nuclear powered submarines to the Confederate ironclad Merrimac. The first drydock built here in 1831 in still in use. Container ships regularly vist the docks between Pinner and Love Points.
The Naval Shipyard Museum is in Portsmouth. But the shipyard is called the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Which is confusing, at least to me. The name was chosen because at the time, there was already a Portsmouth Navy Yard in New Hampshire.
"The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum offers a unique perspective on U.S. history, from Colonial to Civil War times and beyond. You’ll find beautiful ship models, uniforms, military artifacts and exhibits portraying life in 18th, 19th and 20th century Portsmouth."
The Lightship PORTSMOUTH (the red ship in the picture) and the Naval Shipyard Museum are together in the same admisssion price.
Winter Hours for both Museums:
Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday; open on Mondays that fall on a holiday.
Summer Hours for both Museums:
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day;
Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Admission:
The $3 admission fee covers both the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum and the Lightship Museum.
The concept is sophisticated - without being stuffy. The mood is upscale and energetic. "It's a fun place to go where you can get anything you want, and it's always great!" This is the statement they have on their website, and I have to agree, the food here is excellent as is the service and atmosphere. Do order prime rib, it literally melts in your mouth -- I wish I was there right now ! If you're on the Atkins Diet, this is the place for you. But if not, have a baked potato, baked in rock salt to perfection.
This is a tradition in my family. Even if you are only here for the day, plan it around your meal at Giovanni's on the beach..They have individual jukeboxes on each table. The decorations are lovely italian & greek feel..you will love this restaurant.. We enjoy the pastas and the pizza..everything on the menu is awesome..you can't go wrong with anything.
A great way to see the Hampton Roads and the historical waterfront, is to set sail on the American Rover. This is a three-masted 135-foot passenger schooner designed after a 19th century cargo schooner, but the lower deck has an air conditioned coctail lounge and snackbar. The captain points out all the highlights in the harbor and if you wish, you can take a turn at the wheel. The trip lasts for about two hours and brings you up close and personal to the ships in Norfolk Harbor.

Q: First timers to Virginia Beach "Does anyone know of anyway to drive to Virginia Beach from Ohio that does not involve having to cross over bridges? Low, flat and..."
A: "Are tunnels okay? I-64 into Norfolk is part bridge, part tunnel, but mostly tunnel. The bridge part is not much. That's really about it except for getting over the Ohio..."
