Felt like the end of a long season
by A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel felt as though it had been through a lot. Well situated, large and a with a balcony the room we had could have been great value for money....
However, there were some unidentified, but not nice smells and the whole room felt as though it had been well used and abused. Needs a good upgrade through the winter. I am glad we were only staying for one night.
it was very nice

We stayed here for the weekend and it was very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and very clean. Our bed was clean and very comfortable. we stayed in a king sized suite. the elevator and the lobby was small but we weren't planning on staying in there for very long anyway. We did only have one remote for 2 televisions but it was okay. For the price we were pleasantly surprised. We stay in Va Beach often for weekend trips and we would definitely stay here again. The reviews I read before we left worried me so I was anxious to see how bad it really was. But it was actually quite nice.
Just Okay

This hotel is okay for the price, especially if you don't plan to spend much time in the room.
Pros: The view is great! Suites are roomy and have a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and sink in the kitchen area. Two TVs but only one remote. Beds were comfortable. Everything was *relatively* clean although it was a bit run down.
Cons: Bathroom is small and located right next to the bed (I swear if I fell out of bed I would have been in the toilet!) Barely enough room to turn around in there. Heaven forbid if you are on the heavy side. Bathroom sink area was also cramped.
The worst con was the noise. The walls were paper thin .. you could hear everything from all sides, especially the outside. The bedroom and air conditioner were located on the Atlantic Ave. side so every noise from the street (sirens, traffic, pedestrian noise) sounded like it was right in the room. (It would have been much quieter if the beds were located on the ocean side.) Hard to sleep if you go to bed early. The toilets flushed so loud it sounded like a jet engine.
The whole place needs a major renovation but as long as you're not expecting some fancy resort, it's okay I guess.
Not bad for the price

We stayed in a suite that had a pullout sofa and a king sized bed with bathroom that was separate and in the back of the room. There was also a coffee pot; refrigerator and microwave. We traveled with a 10 year old and we thought the place was fine. It was very clean but very old and needed some updates. It did smell a bit musty but that may have been because we were right on the beachfront. We had a balcony that oversaw the bike path and ocean. Great view. The staff was very helpful and friendly. It was not a bad place to stay for the money they charged. It was conveniently located in the middle of all the activities going on from 6/17-6/21/2006. Our complaints that were minor consisted of a 1 cup coffee pot (kind of rough when you both drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning) and a teeny tiny bathroom. I must agree with the other reviews that the size of the bathroom sucks. If you are an overweight person, there is no way you will fit inside the bathroom and be able to move about freely. Thank goodness my husband and I are well fit and trim so we didn't have that problem. Everything in the room is very, very old and worn out but as far as cleanliness goes, it was very clean. I read the prior review about roaches and I don't know what floor they were on but we were on the 7th floor and we did not experience any bugs of anykind. I would stay here again since our stay was pleasant & cheap, but not entirely compatible to our needs.
Don't believe the negative reviews !!!!!!
by TripAdvisor Member phattmarty
do not believe the negative reviews !!!!!!!!!! yes the pool is small, some hotels have no outside pool, the elavator oh well you got me there. but the staff is very helpfull, the view is great, and above all you can't beat the price! even my wife after reading the negative reviews said it was much better than expected. we stayed for 7 day's for a little over $1200.00 you can't beat that for a oceanfront suite. martin kenny willowick, ohio

Im considering moving to Virginia Beach
by oceangirl622
Im a single 25 year old female who wants to relocate to a beach area in September of 2007. Im not to familiar with this area but since I was a baby my family and I have been vacationing down in OBX. I love that area but it is to remote for relocation. I recently read that Virginia beach is one of the top places to find a job and the unemployment rate is very low. I am in the hospitality business and I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to if VB is the place to move to. I love the water, I scuba dive and I am a very outdoorsy person. I love to hike and take long walks/jogs. Is Virginia Beach right for me?

Virginia Beach is a real city so there are employment opportunities there as well as Norfolk.
It is largely a military town with the 6th Fleet of the Navy and many other military bases.
It is a nice area - good climate - not terribly congested and still somewhat reasonably priced.
So its worth a look in my opinion. Come on down and get a beachfront room and get the flavor of the place.
