Visitors Centre
by bugalugs
An adult ticket for a day pass costs $39, $19.50 for a child between 6 - 14 years. Dont forget that if you are not really bothered about entering the buildings or dont have enough time then you can just walk round the town.
This includes the use of the shuttle bus which takes you from the Visitor's Centre into the Colonial part. You can however, walk across a bridge from the Visitor's Centre which leads along a path through a park area and takes approximately 10 minutes.
If you pay for your day pass you can watch a film at the Visitor's Centre on Colonial Williamsburg.
Restrooms, wheelchair hire, phones, water fountains and cold drinks are all available here.
For Colonial Williamsburg,...

For Colonial Williamsburg, remeber that you are travelling back in time. Once you walk throug the door you are in the 18th Century. If you try to challenge the 'residents' i.e. If you say ' What do you think about Monica' they will look blankly at you.
If you say you are from Australia they will have no knowledege of your country.
Colonial brick pattern
by matcrazy1
Look at the pattern of bricks on my picture of a wall of the Tarpley's Store. Bricks in each horizontal line are laid in the way that alternately short face and long face is visible. A line below the order is the same but there is long face always below short one and oposite.
This pattern is called Flemish Brick Bond and is typical for colonial architecture in Williamsburg. Well, it's not so easy to find nowadays. Today bricks are laid quite deferent, with only long faces visible. Flemish became popular in the 18th century particularly when used as a design feature with alternate coloured bricks. Before, in 16th and 17th century, English brick bond was common: with a line of long faces visible above a line of short faces. So, the pattern of bricks can indicate approx. time of a wall building.
Freedom Flag from Texas
by matcrazy1
This flag, on my picture, is displayed in the Colonial Wiliamsburg's Visitor Center. It is... similar to the official US national flag. Can you see the difference?
Following the events of September 11, 2001, fifth and sixth graders at Eubanks Intermediate School in Southlake, Texas created this flag to symbolize America and the Freedom it represents. The students expressed their own personal thoughts about freedom by inscribing their words onto their Freedom Flag. I found some thoughts interesting: What freedom means to me is choices. We can make our own choices, we have rights, too.
Well, once I asked the question "What does freedom mean for you?" to an American friend - woman and she was very confused and surpriced about the question. She asked she didn't know, she didn't know and experienced any wars etc.
Being from Poland. the country which regained real freedom in not so distant past (1989 from the Soviet Union), I didn't realize at first that freedom maybe something taken for granted (like air and water) for most Americans. Well, it seems that September 11, 2001 shocked and changed minds of some US citizens on that matter.
