More about Hampton Inn & Suites Williamsburg Historic District, Va Hotel

Very nice hotel, but it's name is slightly deceptive

by TripAdvisor Member PickyGuy

My kids love this hotel. They love the pool, the hot tub, the fine morning breakfast, etc. The hotel is newer and it is clean. The staff is friendly. The rooms are large and well appointed. The wired internet is fast . . and free. There is also wireless internet in the lobby.

My only "complaint" is that this hotel is 3/4 of a mile from the Northeast edge of the "Historic District" and so it is not as if you want to walk to the Colonial Williamsburg area. If you have a vehicle then this point is mute. In fact, this hotel is convenient (via car) to many of the area's attractions.

A Cut Above The Average Hampton

by TripAdvisor Member gladdismom

We stayed at this new Hampton Inn on our recent visit to Williamsburg. Yes, this is a Hampton Inn, so don't expect a world class resort hotel. That being said, here is what we found to be above average about this particular Hampton.

-The lobby is beautifully decorated.

-Our king study room was large and very nicely appointed. The bed and bedding were very comfortable. The wetbar with microwave and fridge was nice to have, as was the in-room safe.

-The staff was helpful and friendly. We forgot a few toiletries and they were cheerfully provided for us.

-The location is wonderful if you like quiet. Unlike most of the hotels in Williamsburg, this Hampton (there are two in Williamsburg - don't confuse them) is not on the Richmond Road strip, which is crowded and extremely commercial. Capitol Landing Road has a few older motels, but mostly it's an old residential neighborhood. The Hampton is just about exactly 1 mile from the Historic District. If you didn't have to do so much walking once you GET to the Historic District you could actually consider walking there from the hotel.

The only disappointment was the breakfast, which was all the standards with nothing to set it apart from other chains.

We'd recommend this Hampton Inn with confidence.

Great Family Hotel!

by TripAdvisor Member kadelia

Our family of five loved the double queen suite--the first hotel we found to be comfortable in size for our growing children!

Despite our suite sharing a wall with the elevators, the occassional hum was not readily noticeable and did not disturb our sleep at all (and I have a hard time sleeping at hotels--so this was significant!) The new bedding with Euro shams was divine--my husband and I could not believe how well we slept in these beds!

The pool was a huge hit with our three kids (aged 11, 6 and 5) and there was ample seating for the adults. The hotel did run out of towels by the pool but replaced them without being asked within minutes...and with larger hotel room towels. Very nice!

The exercise room off the pool was standard; my hubby is an exercise nut and he wasn't impressed but we lay people who don't work out five times a week thought it was more than adequate.

Breakfast is your "hot continental" which included scrambled eggs to make it "hot." My only complaint was the lack of seating at breakfast; which was exasperated by people who were reading a paper and not eating when it was obvious people needed a place to sit and eat. Tea, hot chocolate and coffee was available 24/7--very nice.

Loved the Hampton "Breakfast to go" brown bag option--a bottled water, breakfast bar, muffin, apple and mints--free when you don't have time to do the buffet.

The business center--WOW--free online access with computers (nice since I don't take the laptop when I'm with the kids). Very impressed--you had everything there (calculators, paper, printer, staples, pens, paperclips, etc.)

Definately recommend this as THE place to stay when in the Williamsburg area with children!

Convenient, comfortable, and clean

by TripAdvisor Member Arlington_Reviewer

This new Hampton Inn and Suites near the eastern part of the Colonial
Williamsburg area is clean, convenient, and comfortable. The bed was especially nice. I usually don't sleep that well on hotel beds, but I slept very well on this one. The breakfast was decent, though the Colonial Pancake House (open for breakfast and lunch) is just a short walk down the street, and it has great breakfasts. The staff at
this new Hampton Inn was very efficient and friendly. Overall, a very
good hotel that I would recommend to anyone.

Enjoyable stay at HI Williamsburg

by TripAdvisor Member CaliGirl4Ever

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the HI Williamsburg. The hotel is easy to get to, clean, comfortable and appears to be very new. Parking is free and plentiful.

Check in was quick and easy and we received the 2 queen room/upper floor/near elevator room we had requested. The desk staff was always friendly and helpful. They even have a very handy map of the area with directions to local attractions. It was a lifesaver!

The hotel is off the beaten path in Williamsburg; the main area of Richmond Road is where most of the hotels, restaurants, and shopping are located. The HI is in a more isolated area; you really need a car as nothing is within walking distance.

The room was comfortable and clean. Storage space is at a premium as there is only a small closet available. I don't know if this was because we had a room that connected to another room. It looked like you might get a bigger closet in other rooms without the giant door going through them. There was a refrigerator and microwave in the room as well which was very handy for snacks and drinks. Breakfast was provided each morning and consisted of the usual HI fare: cereal, juice, toast, hot entree, rolls, muffins, etc. The breakfast area was super busy and somewhat crowded, but we didn't have trouble finding a place to sit.

The indoor pool was a hit with our DD; it was very warm and at all hours seemed to be busy. I never used the fitness room, but every time we went by it was crowded with people. The hotel was very busy and seemed to be filled with families or groups with kids. The business center was off the lobby area and had 2 computers for guests to use. I never had trouble finding one available, but there were lots of kids in there during our stay. The laundry room had two washers and three dryers; $1.50 a load. It was busy, but I didn't have trouble squeezing in a couple of loads.

Check out was a breeze from the room. Overall we had a very nice stay at this HI and would recommend it to anyone who wants a convenient location to Colonial Williamsburg at a good price.

Clean and Comfortable

by TripAdvisor Member kgintexas

Extremely clean. Liked having two sinks (one in kitchen area) outside of bathroom. Our room was quiet, being sandwiched between a linen/utility/service closet and the electrical room on the 4th floor. The toilets flush violently and I believe we would have heard the neighbor's toilet if there would have been a room adjacent. Service staff was prompt about a problem with the internet and the safe which is quite large. We could not get wireless internet (possibly due to the vacinity of the electrical room) but the ethernet wire was already in the room. Plenty of pillows and we never were allowed to run out of towels, washcloths, toilet paper, tissues or toiletries. Overall an impressive stay for a moderate price. I will stay there again if in Williamsburg.

Great hotel

by TripAdvisor Member retiredvaprof

My wife and I, both seniors, stayed here for two nights (May 21-22, 2007). We chose this hotel based on its price range ($85-$100/night) and also on Trip Advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. Located on Capitol Landing Road, it is away from the major traffic on Richmond Road but still very convenient to restaurants, other businesses, and the various attractions in the Williamsburg area. There is plenty of free parking. Check-in was quick and the desk staff were very courteous. The room was very clean, and the new bedding was luxurious and extremely comfortable. We typically don't sleep well in hotels but we did in this one! This was one of the quietest hotels we have ever stayed in. The breakfasts were more than adequate and provided a broader array of choices than most hotels in this price range. The coffee was absolutely THE BEST of any hotel we have ever stayed (even betteer than Starbucks). The breakfast area was quite busy, especially between 7:00 and 8:00 but we had no trouble getting a table.

We would definitely return to this hotel in the future and highly recommend it to others.

Beautiful hotel!

by TripAdvisor Member spoiled_brat_viv

Hotel is beautiful and very clean. Service was outstanding. Booked a '2 room suite' and it was only one room - disappointed with that, but otherwise absolutely loved this property. Nice pool and whirlpool. Great breakfast included every morning. Price a little higher, but worth it for comfort. I definitely recommend this property if you are in the area.

great beds

by TripAdvisor Member LandlockedinCO

This is a very pleasant hotel with very comfortable bedding, and it is very quiet at night.

The breakfast is OK, but not very exciting.

The staff is very helpful and let us store our luggage for the afternoon after we had checked out.
