More about Quality Inn Historic Area Williamsburg

VERY NIce Hotel in Willamsburg!

by TripAdvisor Member eurotrek

We had the opportunity to stay at the Quality Inn Historic in June when our original hotel moved us because of lightening damage. We were a bit hesitant since we don't normally stay at Quality Inns since we don't find them very appealing, but we have to say we were more than pleasantly surprised! The hotel appeared to be new or at least had had a total renovation. Our room was large with new furnishings, great beds, nice linens, good pillows, and beautifully renovated bathrooms. We would put our room on par with a Hilton Garden or Courtyard ( which are usually our mid-price hotels of choice). The only downside of the hotel was that they offer a continental breakfast which is located in an out of the way annex to the hotel, that we think must have been a full service restaurant at one time. The dining area is nice with lovely bamboo furniture & tile floors but the breakfast itself is blan, cheap, unappealing & not worth the walk.
Aside from the breakfast, we don't understand some of the previous negative reviews unless the reviewers have this hotel mixed up with some of the other Quality Inns in Willamsburg. We stay in hotels approx. 7-10 nights a month and are very picky about cleanliness and have to say we would certainly not hesitate to stay here again.

Very Nice

I was pleasantly suprised by this hotel. I figured for the money I paid it was going to be pretty down-on-its-luck, but everything looked brand new & clean.
As far as the drapes not closing...they do close, it's just a little tricky. Took me a couple minutes to figure it out.
I got up too late to indulge in the Continental Breakfast so I can't really comment on that, but there is a reasonably-priced breakfast restaurant right down the road.
I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area.

Super Place

Not your usual Quality Inn. Just renovated, looks like a 4-star hotel inside. Hallways and rooms in rich solids and stripes, attractive lighting, nice carpet. Comfy beds and linens, air conditioning, etc. New, spotless bathrooms. Very attractive, well-kept. Large, impressive lobby. Brand new pool. Good location, plenty of free parking. Only problem is poor breakfast. It's all cheap, sugary carbs and icky coffee. I advised management to either improve the offerings or skip it altogether. However, The Gazebo, just across the street, has good, and relatively inexpensive breakfasts.

Just your Basic Quality Inn

by TripAdvisor Member FlagAZ-traveller

Basic room, basic service, basic Quality Inn. We booked the room at this hotel because the other two hotels nearby (Comfort Inn and Sleep Inn) didn't have very good reviews on Trip Adivsor. Yes, the hotel has been recently renovated, but it's certainly nothing palacial. In the Choice Hotels family, this fits right in the middle of the Quality Inn line which is usually a step below Comfort Inn and two steps below Comfort Suites. Room was clean and no odd smells noted anywhere that we walked within the motel (other than the fresh paint smell). Staff was neutral - did their jobs promptly and when asked - but not overly friendly, just there to put in their time. Relatively hard beds, but not too uncomfortable. Breakfast was your basic continental - coffee, juice, cereal, toast and donuts. Surrounding area was nice and we did not see security as a problem. Several familiar restaurants nearby (Cracker Barrel, IHOP, etc.). We thought the price wasn't too bad ($75/night) considering that we were travelling after Memorial Day and summer rates had kicked in.

I'd stay again if passing through and the rates were comparable to other surrounding hotels.

Hmm...

We stayed here for four nights in early April after the hotel was recommended to us by the tourism bureau. We booked our stay online, and found out upon arrival that lower rates were available if we had booked on the spur of the moment. The manager refused to refund us the difference.

We then made it to our room, which was fine. There was, however, a problem with the noise. The walls and doors are paper thin, so much that we knew where the guests next door were having dinner without trying to eavesdrop.

The other complaint I have about this place: the lady sitting at a little desk at the entrance of the hotel lobby. She greets you with a smile and starts offering you brochures of things to do in the area, making you think she's just there to help. But suddenly she starts trying to hard sell you into going on a tour of a local timeshare. When you say you're not interested, she just becomes rude. For the remainder of our stay, it was awkward passing by her because she was so cold after we did not show an interest.

We've stayed in worse places, but we've also stayed in better. I would look around before committing your vacation dollards to this place.

Standard Hotel

I stayed at this Quality Inn while in Williamsburg for business for three nights in June. Not being familiar with the area, I felt the hotel was hard to find from the highway. The room was adequate. No frills, but clean and in good shape. I enjoyed the free wireless internet and full cable channel lineup, but did not have a chance to try the breakfast or outdoor pool. I had no issues with noise from other rooms or with the staff. This was just a good, basic hotel.

Really enjoyed our stay

by A TripAdvisor Member

I selected this hotel based on other reviews. My main concern is ALWAYS cleanliness and I found this hotel to be very neat and tidy. The room was very clean. The only negative comments I have are that the nightstand light was broken and the floor light was missing a light bulb. I didn't mention it to the front desk but I did have a problem with the TV and they were at our room to fix it immediately. Everyone seemed very friendly and helpful. The pool could have stood a daily cleaning as there was a lot of debri at the bottom. The best part of our stay was the free continental breakfast. It was a very nice spread with several choices. The kids really enjoyed it too. I would definitely stay here again.

Find a Better Place

I generally wait until after a trip to rate a hotel, but if I can do this now and keep someone from staying here, I'll do it. The hotel advertises itself by saying "Come visit our new hotel." Well, I've been staying here for three days so far, and the only new thing I see is the closet armoire they've put in the room to substitute for a real closet, which the room doesn't have. I am not a very picky traveler, since I do it often for business, and you learn not to be, but this room is subpar even by my standards.

The rooms are small, I have no idea how a family of three or more could manage in a room this size. The beds are way too firm, and the bathrooms are small and not clean. Mine had a number of hairs in the sink and tub, and has rust and soap scum around the drain of the tub. The chair in the room is just the opposite of the bed, way too soft. The 'work area' is a small desk that has room for my laptop, and that's about it.

The pool is dirty and small for a hotel this size. I haven't tried the breakfast yet, so I can't comment on that. The front desk staff has been helpful with requests, and mildly courteous. The housekeeping staff, however, has been very poor. Especially frustrating is when they turn my air conditioning off during the day, so that when I've come back to the room in the afternoon expecting a cool place to rest after a long day working, I get a room that is nearly as hot as it is outside.

You have lots of options for cheap loding while in Williamsburg, whether you're visiting for work or for play. I'm confident you can find significantly better accomidations for the same price somewhere else. Check those out and stay away from this hotel.

just the basics

by TripAdvisor Member Novinha

We were in room 213 a non-smoking king bed room as requested from August 5-13, 2006. We stay at choice hotels frequently and I am comparing this hotel to them. Here are my pros and cons:

Pros: Great location for a vacation to Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. The hallways were very clean. The room was also very clean. If you seek cleanliness, this is a great hotel. The bathroom had lots of hot water. My boyfriend and I took a shower immediately after each other and the second person never ran out of hot water. The shower curtain rod bulged out giving us more room. The staff at check-in was very friendly. I liked that this hotel had indoor corridors to the rooms. The breakfast area had lots of tables for seating, more than I have seen at any other hotel. The wireless internet worked well. I thought the price was fair for peak summer. I never heard any excessive noise from other rooms or hallways. The bathroom was always very clean. They had cable so the weather channel displayed local weather every 10 minutes. The front of the hotel had automatic open doors into the lobby which is a huge help in dragging in the luggage (luggage carts were also available).

Cons: Our TV volume did not go very loud. I have good ears and I had a hard time hearing the TV over the air conditioner at times. The tub was very very slow to drain water. I had my feet covered in water most of my shower. I thought the breakfast hours were pitiful; 7-9AM. The breakfast selection was not as good as I am used to. They had two types of cereal, bagels, toast, and some pastries. Usually when I go to a choice hotel, there is waffle batter and waffle maker for do-it-yourself waffles, but not here. Also the orange juice and milk were kept out in jugs and it got warm sometimes. The breakfast set-up was very congested for getting the food; it was lined up between two counters with a very narrow path between them. There was no refridgerator or microwave in the room. Most choice hotels I go to do have them, but not this one. There was no side key entrance at night; you had to enter through the lobby. The parking in front was very small and always packed. There were only 2 washers and 2 dryers and they were very popular mid-week. There is also no detergent available for purchase. Our housekeeping forgot to change our ice bucket bag on many occasions and once it was forgotten completely.

My stay here was decent. Just a few minor things to spruce it up would be nice. Would I stay here again? If it offered a good price, sure I would (but I'd bring a cooler to act as a refrigerator). But if another choice hotel were offering a better price, I'd stay with the other hotel.

Very nice stay

by TripAdvisor Member Bill99

My wife and I just returned and found the hotel just fine. It is very clean and the room was very ample in size. My wife thought the bath room was a bit small but the great shower made up for it. This is a newer hotel built about 1 year ago. The pool was clean, good size as well. It is in a convenient location just a few minutes from William and Mary and the historic area. The front desk was cordial and the rate I paid was a bargain at $85 per nite; it dropped to $71 on Sunday. I will definately stay again. The continental breakfast was fine. Remember: it is continental breakfast, for a full meal go to restaraunt. We travel alot and this was true bargain.
