Urszula and the redcoats
by b1bob
Urszula is new to this colony and she didn't know to mind the company she kept. Back during the Revolutionary War, these guys were Tories (British loyalists) and they tried to keep us from gaining independence from England. To my friends in England, I'm only kidding, folks.
A lot of kids
by matcrazy1
This kids, on my picture, came to visit Williamsburg from Hawaii, as I remember well. Quite a trip. They put more attention to my camera than to words of the historical interpreters who was talking to them. There are many kids and school groups visiting the Colonial Williamsburg. No wonder, the educational value of that place is well known.
I think that every man and woman living in Virginia visits Williamsburg at school times like every kid in my part of Poland visits quite different place, the former Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz (Oswiecim), Poland. What's the most popular place for school groups in your area?
The Red Army in Williamsburg?
by matcrazy1
I met this guy, on my picture, in main avenue of Colonial Williamsburg. He was a historical interpreter costumed in the red uniform. Well, he surely wasn't the famous or rather unfamous Red Army soldier but lower rank Royal, British soldier.
COLOUR OF ARMY
I got to know that red colour for the British Army was adopted in 1645 when first permanent army was raised (12 years after Williamsburg was settled). Why red? I don't know. Most think in order to hide blood stains. Different colours of troops helped to recognize enemy's troops from a distance at a battlefield and avoid friendly fire.
Well, every army adopted certain colours as their national colours::
French - blue,
Russian - green,
British - red.
And later on:
Union (U.S., North) - blue (why blue? maybe because they fought together with already blue French Army against red British Army during the War for Independence)
Confederate (South) - grey.
HAT
He was the only gentelman who wore broad brimmed hat in Colonial Williamsburg which was fashionable in... early colonial times in 17th century. His army mate was an officer and wore tricornered hat.
Yorktown

George Washington and the French General, Rochambeau arrived at Yorktown in late September 1781to fight the British and win to end the Revolutionary War in October 1781. The Battlefield is now a National Park. Tickets to Jamestown and Yorktown can be purchased together or separate.

by bugalugs about Williamsburg Outlet Mall
This was more of a mall and when we went there one evening, a lot of the shops were shut and those that were open were not half as good as the Prime Outlets. There was also a lot that were empty.
