Christiana Campbell's...
by steph4867 about Christiana Campbell's Tavern
This historic tavern, George Washington's personal favorite, today specializes in seafood. Grilled seafood dishes are balanced with regional favorites such as Clam Chowder, Crab Cakes, and Muddle - a tomato-based stew of shrimp, scallops and fish fillets. Chicken Imperial and Filet Mignon are also offered. The entrees are complemented by long-time tavern favorites: Campbell's Cabbage Slaw, Spoon Bread, and Sweet Potato Muffins.
Historic Dining
Each of the four operating taverns in the Historic Area -- Christiana Campbell's, Chowning's, King's Arms, and Shields -- offers a unique menu and atmosphere. Character interpreters and wait staff in 18th-century dress explain colonial dining habits and food preferences, adding more flavor to this fascinating glimpse of history. Strolling balladeers perform at dinner.
Contemporary Dining
Only steps from the Historic Area, enjoy lavish buffets and Chesapeake Bay favorites in the Bay Room and Café at the Williamsburg Lodge. Light lunches and terrace dining at the Gold Course Grill and Green Course Grill provide sweeping views of the golf course. At the visitor Center and Williamsburg Woodlands, there's the new Colonial Williamsburg family restaurant, HUZZAH! with food and drink to cheer about.
OK stay at Woodlands

We stayed for one night at the Woodlands Hotel & Suites. The only negative we noticed (but it is a big one) was that the beds were very uncomfortable. Perhaps it is just because we are not used to such hard mattresses, but none of us found them comfortable. The rooms however, were clean and quiet and the lobby and staff were pleasant.
On the positive side, the location (right next to the visitors center) is wonderful. We didn't have to move our car at all while we were there. The continental breakfast was fine -- we didn't eat any other meals at the hotel. We got great discounts on Williamsburg tickets because we stayed at the hotel and the room price was very reasonable. The highlight of our stay was the large, clean pool which my kids really enjoyed.
We would be happy to return if the hotel gets new beds.
Perfect Location and Reasonable Deal

We stayed at the Williamsburg Woodlands for three nights. We had a suite for $189/night. The room was reasonably up to dates, clean, comfortable. No complaints about the bed or pillows. Shower could have been hotter and with more water pressure. Pool was dirty on the bottom and water was not clear. Hallways and stairs were in bad need of vacuuming which did not happen while we stayed. Towels had mystery stains. Location was convenient to Visitor Center. Just a short walk to the shuttle buses to the historic area. We were disappointed that we had to stand in line to check in, and then we had to go to the visitor center to stand in line to get our prepaid tickets to Williamsburg. Two lines weren't convenient - - it should all happen at check in. Biggest complaint was that the complimentary breakfast was accompanied by more flies than in a horse stable. Disgusted us so much we ate breakfast out on the other two mornings. Huzzahs, the attached restaurant, had $8.95 kids menu items and the meals were not worth that. The adult food choices were shallow and Denny's level. Kings Arm Tavern was same price for kids menu and had a very good menu for adults but the bathrooms were filthy. Dirty bathroom- dirty kitchen? Makes me wonder.
Felt like a bad Camp

My husband booked a room through Woodlands Motor Inn as he had stayed here before. They had no rooms in the new part, so we received rooms in the older portion. We were told the room had 2 double beds and a cot. Instead we had 1 double bed, 1 twin bed, and the only way to put up the cot would have been to block the exit door. Bad idea in case of an emergency. We ended up having to rent an additional room, at our cost, to have room for everyone. The room smelled very musty. The sheets and shower curtains had tears in them. For $100 a night, it needs a lot of improvement. It did have a nice continental breakfast, free shuffleboard, and a nice little playground. I would not stay here again.
We'd go back

It's been almost a year since we took our family of 3 sons (ages 26,28, 29), daughter-in-law, and four grandchildren (ages 8, 7, 5, 3) to Williamsburg and stayed 3 nights at the Woodlands. Yes, the rooms were $115 a night (our treat) but the convenience was well worth it. We walked, day and night, into the historic area, swam in the pool, and played free carpet golf, ate in the restaurant at the complex and took advantage of the full free breakfast. The rooms were roomy with a chair that folded out into a bed as a bonus. We took one day and drove to Jamestown. Our son with wife and 4 kids had so much fun they stayed an extra day! The 8 year old marched in the parade! I made reservations beforehand to eat a Shields- an historic inn- and enjoyed all you can eat, family style dining. The little ones were picky eaters but were treated special with ice cream for dessert. My husband and I will go back and stay here. I LOVE WILLIAMSBURG! And we live only 20 miles from St. Augustine, FL. There's so much live history and it changes day to day. Did I tell you: I LOVE WILLIAMSBURG!

We upgraded to the Woodland Suites when we got to Willaimsburg after we saw our original choice of the Govenors Inn (which was gross-- I am surprised that it is part of the Colonial Williamsburg Hotel group). We found the Woodland Suites to be very nice and convenient to the Visitors Center.
